GOERES

Descendants of Peter Goeres

Generation No. 1

1. PETER1 GOERES (FRANCIOSA, PIERREB, CORNELIUSC) was born 17-May-1849 in Eschweiler, Luxembourg,
and died 10-Oct-1937 in Earling, Shelby Co., Iowa. He married ELIZABETH KOCH 02-Mar-1875 in
Luxembourg, daughter of JEAN KOCH and ANNA KOENIG.

Notes for PETER GOERES:
!The data for the Goeres family was provided by Margaret Goeres Stessman of
Defiance, Iowa (Sept 1992) with additional ancestor history provided by Loren
Goeres of Seattle, Washington and Catherine Goeres of Osmond, Neb. (1993).

!1880 census data (taken 21 Jun 1880) for Westphalia Twsp, Shelby Co., Iowa
(Page 31) shows the household of Peter Goeres (Age 30) and his wife Elizabeth
(25) -both born in Luxembourg, along with a boarder Theodore born in Luxembourg
(19 - probably his brother), daughter Anna (2 - born in Minn.), and son Theodore
(age 5/12, born Jan 1880 in Iowa).

!Interestingly, on page 28 of the same census record, the family of Michael and
Katie Miller and their 7 children (John P., Josephine, John, Mary, Katie, Emil,
& Julius) are listed.

!1900 Census indicates that year of immigration to the U.S. for both Peter
Goeres and his wife Elizabeth was 1873, while the 1910 Census record indicates
that it was 1875. Anecdotal information from Nicol Goeres in Eschweiler, Lux
in 1993 says that Peter and Elizabeth left for America the day after their
wedding;i.e., on 3 Mar 1875. The family was recorded in both records under
Westphalia Township, Shelby County, Iowa. He disappears from this area in the
1920 census, although seperate records are shown in Shelby County for three of
his sons: Peter Jr. & family, August & family, and Joseph who was living alone
at the time. Information received from Catherine Goeres of Osmond,
Nebraska indicates that he may have been in Caledonia, Minn at that
time courting and/or taking his second wife, Elizabeth (last name
unknown), who was the widow of a friend he had immigrated with to the
U.S. Catherine also reports that Peter Goeres was in Osmond about 1927 for
several months helping his son P. Theodore add a room to the farm house there.

south of Osmond, Nebraska and brought his two sons there to farm it (P. Theodore). Roger Tacy still
owns the property. News sent by other newspapers to the Central Location of Luxembourg News from

Co., Minnesota, USA, and died 09-Apr-1915 in Defiance, Shelby County, Iowa, USA. She married JOHN

Obituary from the Shelby County Republican, Thursday, April 15, 1915.

"MRS. PETER MULLER DIED FOLLOWING OPERATION.

Mrs. Peter Miller died at Mercy hospital, Council Bluffs, Friday at six P.M., after an operation for
appendicitis and gall stones. The operation was performed on Tuesday and she seemed to be recovering
nicely, so that her sudden death was a shock to everyone. The body was brought to Defiance Saturday
morning and funeral services held in the Catholic Church Monday at 9:30 A.M., conducted by Rev.
Berkheiser. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetary.

Miss Anna Goeres was born in November, 1877, at Calidonia, Minn. She was united in marriage to Peter
Miller at Earling in November, 1896, and to this union seven children were born, two girls and five boys,
all of whom are living. In 1903 they moved to the farm 3 1/2 miles west of Defiance, where they have
since resided.

Mrs. Miller's brother, Theodore Goeres, of Osmond, Neb., and cousin Peter Goeres of Whitelake, S.D.,
besides numerous other relatives and friends from out of town, attended the funeral."

Notes for JOHN PETER MILLER:
John Peter Miller was born in Elkador, Iowa, on June 5, 1868. He moved to Westphalia, Iowa, with his
parents when he was 5 years old. He was the oldest in the family. He had 6 sisters ( 3 who became nuns )
and 4 brothers. His father was a farmer and he helped his dad farm till he sold it. He went to Earling,
Iowa and worked as a bartender until he got married on November 12, 1895 to Anna Goeres of Earling,
Iowa. Anna was born in Caledonia, Minnesota, on November 28, 1878. It is unknown when she came to
Earling, Iowa. Anna's father bought them a farm around 1900 for $60.00/acre. In this union, 7 children
were born.

Lizzie	April 21	1896
Kate	Aug 26	1898
Peter	March 11	1900
Frank	Nov 14	1901
Lawrence	April 2	1904
Joe	April 6	1907
Leo	April 26	1910

In World War I, they bought a farm across the road for $385/acre. Anna died April 9, 1915 from a blood
clot after having gall-bladder surgery and an appendectomy. John's father, Michael Miller also died that
year, September 19, 1915. In 3 year period during the "dry" years they lost their farms. The homeplace
was lost in 1935. Corn was 11 cents per bushel and cattle and hogs were 3 cents per pound. They
continued to live on the homeplace by renting it from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. They were
left with 8 cows and 4 horses. Joe farmed the land until he went into the service in 1942. He rented it out
while he was in the service but on returning home, he bought his own place. John lived with Joe on his
farm until he died in June 19, 1949 of ear cancer.

This information was relayed to me (Lawrence Miller of Washington) by Joe Miller in 1989. He also
related that his Dad was a stubborn, strict man. He never admitted that his father-in-law bought them a
farm. He said the "spirit" went out of him when he lost both farms. Especially the homeplace. He lived
with Joe until he died as "I was single and he was too hard to live with."

Children of ANNA GOERES and JOHN MILLER are:
9.	i.	FRANK J.3 MILLER, b. 14-Nov-1901, Earling, Shelby Co., Iowa; d. 30-May-1987, Defiance, Shelby county, Iowa, USA.
10.	ii.	CATHERINE JOSEPHINE MILLER, b. 26-Aug-1898, Westphalia, Shelby Co., Iowa; d. 21-Apr-1994, Harlan, Shelby, Iowa.
11.	iii.	LAWRENCE DANIEL MILLER, b. 02-Apr-1904, Defiance, Iowa; d. 02-Jul-1989, Los angeles, California.

14.	vii.	PETER JOHN MILLER, b. 11-Mar-1900, Earling, Shelby County, Iowa, USA; d. Apr-1988.

3. P. THEODORE2 GOERES (PETER1, FRANCIOSA, PIERREB, CORNELIUSC) was born 20-Jan-1880 in Westphalia,
Shelby County, Iowa, USA, and died 10-Jul-1930 in Osmond, Nebraska, USA. He married VICTORIA DORA
KENKEL 24-Apr-1906 in Westphalia, Shelby, Iowa.

Notes for P. THEODORE GOERES:
!Theodore, along with his brother John and sister Catherine, were brought to
Osmond, Nebraska around 1896 in a covered wagon to work a 1/4 section of land
purchased there in 1891 by their father, Peter Goeres. Peter remained with them
for awhile, but returned to Earling, Iowa in the fall of that year.

Diane Gardner has year of birth to be 1890... This is unlikely, as that would have made him 6 years old
instead of 16 to move to Nebraska.

Goeres-Tacey Century Farm Honored: Monument Recounts Years
Five farms were recognized as pioneer family farms during
Saturday evening ceremonies at the Pierce County Fair. The awards are a
project of Nebraska Association of Fair Managers, Ak-Sar-Ben and ConAgra,
Inc. Each recipient received and engraved walnut plaque and an aluminum
gatepost marker from the sponsors. The awards are inscribed to recognize
the 100 year continuous ownership by the family. This year a total of 227
families across the state were honored.
  Goeres-Tacy Homestead
Among this year's winners was the Goeres-Tacy homestead. In 1891
Peter Goeres of Earling, IA., originally from Erschweiler-Wiltz,
Luxembourg, purchased a quarter section of land southeast of Osmond.
Several years later he and three of his young children, P. Theodore, John
and Catherine came to Nebraaska in a covered wagon to settle the farm. In
the fall of that year Peter went back to Earling, leaving his three
children to break the prairie.
John and Catherine were soon married and P. Theodore batched on the
farm until his marriage in 1906 to Dora Kenkel. They continued to operate
the farm and their four children were born and raised there. Of their
children, Margaret (Gudenkauf) and John are deceased, Catherine lives in
Osmond, and Veronica is married to Raymond Tacey and lives in Norfolk. The
Taceys lived on the farmstead for 26 years. They have two chidren; Barbara
Sovereign, who lives in Omaha, and Roger, who lives on and operates the
farm with his wife, Joyce and their three children, Michelle, Adam and
Pamela.
In 1976 the family formed Tacey Farms Ltd, a family limited partnership.
the Ak-Sar-Ben award has Goeres-Tacy Homestead inscribed on it because the
farm was operated exactly 50 years by the Goeres family and 50 years by the
Tacey family.
To keep a farm in one family for 100 years truly takes a
large amount of "blood, sweat and tears", says Roger, and there is a
little of each represented in the monument which the Taceys created.
The cupola comes from the large horse barn built by P. Theodore in the
early days of the farm. Lightning rods are from the first "real house"
which Peter Goeres helped build. The steel frame under the roof came from
the scale at the old Dennis Elevator; the wood in the roof came from a barn
built by Peter and Theodore Goeres in 1896. The hand pump on the left came
from the 'old windmill;" the hand pump on the right came from a Buchholz
farm purchased by Raymond and Veronica Tacey in 1964. The hay sling pulleys
and track on the left are from a large barn originally located on a farm
purchased by Roger and Raymond in 1973; the track and sling pulleys in the
center are from the Goeres horse barn, and the track and pulley on the
right were used by Raymond to lift silage out of a pit silo he built in the
late 1940's. The steel rods for the flag poles come from the first center
pivot purcased by Roger in 1969. Steel support in the stone pillars is
provided by disc blades from the first piece of equipment bought by the
partnership of Tacey Farms Ltd.
Joyce hand-painted the sign in the center of the cupola which includes
the Ak-Sar-Ben coat of arms. The stone is from local fields and has been
split to reveal the true colors. Stones picked up in many states by family
members while on vacation are also included. Still to be added are the
names of each of the family members who have worked the farm during the
past 100 years, and small flags representing three nations and three
religions from which these family members originated.

KURT 08-Oct-1901 in Osmond, Nebraska.

Notes for JOHN WILLIAM GOERES:
Traveled to western North Dakota in a covered wagon and homesteaded north of Lemmon, South Dakota
in 1907 at the same time the railroad was laid in the area. Sons, Matt b. 1903 and Frank b. 1905, were
born in Clark, South Dakota. They were quarantined at Clark with scarlet fever.

                Prairie Pioneers, Adams Co. History
             The John Goeres Family
John Goeres filed on his homestead in South Fork township in 1906.
Because the family was quarantined with Smallpox they had to stay in Clark,
So. Dak. that winter. So they came to their homestead in July 1907.
Traveling by covered wagon; they crossed the Missouri River on a ferry at
Mobridge. They pulled their wagon with 4 horses. There was a kerosene
lantern for light. They had a crate with 2 dozen Plymouth Rock chickens
fastened on the side. When they camped for the night they would turn the
chickens loose for exercise then at dark they would come to the crate to
roost.
At that time the Milwaukee Railroad grade was just being surveyed. So,
they followed Indian Trails most of the way.
Their homestead was situated on the Northwest quarter of section 24 in
South Fork township (Adams county).
The first home was a small sod structure roofed with the tarpaulin from
their wagon.
Supplies were hauled from Glen Ullin and Richarton, about 140 miles
away. The trip usually took over a week.
In the summer of 1908 a sod house was built. Also a hand dug well. A
dug out barn completed their first farmstead. Their first cow was kept on a
picket rope because they had no fence. They also picketed their pig using a
halter fastened around her belly and over her head.
Mr. Goeres worked on the Harry Simmons ranch for $1.00 per day in the
winter time. He also broke horses for Charles Kreutz in 1908. He would walk
home, a distance of about six miles to spend Sunday with his family.
During the summers Mr. Goeres broke land for homesteaders using four
horses on a walking plow. He received $4.00 per acre and plowed about one
acre per day.
Mrs. Goeres and sons Matt, John and Frank used to walk to the Cedar
River (about 2 miles) to catch fish to supplement their diet of bread and
salt pork. An extra treat would be mushrooms which were found in the
numerous buffalo wallows. Wild mustard greens and dandelion lettuce were
also a part of their diet. There were wild plums, choke cherries and
currants growning along the river and creek banks.
Flour, sugar, coffee and salt were staples that had to be purchased.
Yeast for bread was made from wild hops gathered along the river. The hops
were also used for medicinal purposes. Cottontail rabbits and prairie
chicken which were abundant were the fresh meat supplement to the usual
salt pork diet.
In the summer of 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Goeres and family and the Will Kurt
family took a short trip by wagon to the Grand River south of Thunder Hawk
in search of wild plums; and to hunt rabbits. They found no fruit but they
killed and dressed over 200 cottontail rabbits and put them in salt brine
(prepared at home for the purpose). This was to be their winter meat.
1911 was a dry, hot summer and no grain was produced.
The winter of 1912 was exceptionally hard for the Goeres family. In the
fall Mr. Goeres was helping his neighbor John Jackson dig a well by hand.
He accidentally fell into the 25 ft. deep hole puncturing a lung and
breaking his ribs from his back on one side. He was bedridden for two
months and was unable to work that winter.
The children attended Lathrop school. Miss Hazel Noe was the first
teacher in 1908.
Margaret and Lloyd were born in the sod house.
From the first 160 acres the farm was gradually expanded to 640 acres.
In 1918 a frame house was purchased and moved to the farm. The other sod
buildings were gradually replaced including a barn in 1926 and tile hog
house and chicken house in 1927.
They installed an electric light plant in 1926.
Their first car a 1916 Model T Ford was purchased at an auction held by
the Ford garage in Lemmon in 1924.
Mr. Goeres owned one of the first threshing machines, powered by a
gasoline tractor. And for many years (until the coming of the combines) he
threshed for miles around.
Sons Matt and Frank attended State Auto school in Aberdeen in the winter
of 1926 and 27. Upon graduation from there Frank purchased a new Case
Tractor and it was from then on that the farming operations became
mechanized.
Old Settlers Picnics, dances in the schoolhouse, baseball games and
riding bucking horses made up the entertainment of those early days. Matt
won prize money for bareback riding and also saddle bronc. Ralph Hedger and
Aaron Wallace were also competitiors in the early rodeos.
Mr. and Mrs. Goeres continued to live on the farm until their deaths.
Mr. Goeres died in December 1940 and Mrs. Goeres in Sept 1941.
Sons Frank and Lloyd still live in the area. John passed away in 1958.
Matt lived in Grant county for many years and in the 60's moved to Montana.
Margaret also lives in Montana.
The farm is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hedger.10

Frank J. Miller Genealogy

Frank Miller was born Nov. 14, 1901 to John Peter Miller and Anna Goeres Miller on a farm near
Defiance, Iowa. He was the 4th of 7 children. He had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Frank was 13 years old
when his mother died from a blood clot after Gall-bladder Surgery. His Grand-father Michael also died the
same year. With his mother gone and his sisters married, the cooking and the cleaning of the house-hold
became Frank's job. His brother Joe commented that his brothers were always envious of him because his
clothes and person were always neat & clean and people would comment about it. "We always grumbled
that he had the easy job." As he got older he did also help in the fields.

He met Isabel Weihs at a local dance and courted her for 3 ½ years before getting married April 9, 1929.
They were the fourth couple to get married in the new St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa.
They rented a farm in Buck Grove, Iowa for 11 years. They then moved to a farm 2 miles south-east of
Defiance. They rented the farm for $5.00 an acre for a couple years and then bought it for $77.00 an acre.
Later on they purchased another 80 acres to make their proud ownership of 200 acres. He also rented a
pasture from Leo Reisenberg for some cattle he was raising. Frank raised cattle & hogs besides farming.

Isabel & Frank had 8 children:

Donald April 25, 1930
Norma Feb. 24, 1932
Vernon March 7, 1934
Eugene Nov. 17, 1935
Marvin Aug. 14, 1937
Duane Oct. 24, 1939
Larry March 22, 1942
Mary Jan. 20, 1947

After Frank & Isabel retired, they continued to live on the farm while son, Larry, farmed the land. They
enjoyed watching birds and wild-life around the farm. It wasn't unusual for deer to come close to the farm
hunting for food. One day a couple deer came into the yard by the fuel tank hunting for food. One year
they enjoyed watching a pair of great-horned owls make a nest and hatch their babies in a tree outside their
picture window.

Frank & Isabel were avid card players. If any of the children came by for a visit. it wasn't long before
they were involved in a hot game of "pitch." Frank was known for his "sweet-tooth" and was known for
his comment."This little bit won't hurt", much to Isabel's objections.

Frank suffered a stroke in March, 1986 and after hospitalization, had to enter Little Flower Nursing Home
in Earling, Iowa where he resided till his death May 30, 1987. He was 86 years, 5 months, and 13 days
old.

Isabel lived in town with a live-in housekeeper & companion until she died May 10, 1988 at age of 82
years, 2 months, and 3 days.

Isabel Caroline Weihs Miller

Isabel Weihs Miller was born March 13, 1906 in Lincoln Township near Westphalia, Ia. to Joe & Theresa
Schiltz Weihs. She joined 5 brothers and 5 sisters plus 1 baby who died in childbirth. She lived on the
farm till her parents sold it and moved to Defiance, Ia. From going to a "country school" she was enrolled
in the Town school which was the Catholic Church as well. The building was used as a school during the
week and a Church on Sundays. She went thru the 8th grade. She wanted to go on to High School but
the school was a "Public" school and her father would not allow her to attend a "Public" school. Besides
quote "girls don't need to further their education. They are to help at home as needed." Unquote.

Isabel was kept busy helping her older brothers and sisters when they all had babies. Isabel met Frank
Miller at a dance and was courted 3 ½ years before getting married April 9, 1929 in Defiance at age 23.
They moved to a rented farm at Buck Grove, Ia. 11 years later they bought a farm at Defiance, Ia. and
moved there where they lived till they moved to town in 1985.

To this union, 8 children were born:

Donald April 25, 1930
Norma Feb. 24, 1932
Vernon March 7, 1934
Eugene Nov. 17, 1935
Marvin Aug. 14, 1937
Duane Oct. 24, 1939
Larry March 22, 1942
Mary Jan. 20, 1947

Isabel was an excellent cook. It was noted that she could make a dinner on a moments notice with nothing
in the house. No one ever went away from her house hungry. According to her niece, Marie Gubbels, she
was always cooking or baking over a hot wood-burning stove. Threshers would look forward to
"threshing days at the Millers" because of Isabels cooking.

Isabel always had a huge garden from which she would "can". She also loved flowers and had a
continuous display of flowers during the summer months. During the winter she was kept busy crocheting,
tatting or sewing. She always had a pot of coffee ready for visitors and a deck of cards handy for "anyone
who was interested in a quick game or two".

Isabel suffered a stroke in 1985 which slowed her down. She required a house-keeper with her. She still
enjoyed a game of cards. After Frank suffered a stroke in 1986 and had to enter Little Flower Nursing
Home in Earling, Iowa, Isabel made daily trips to see him. She only missed days when she was sick or if
the weather was bad. Frank died May 30, 1987.

Isabel enjoyed her new house-keeper Molly and taught her how to "cook & play cards." She enjoyed
week-ends with her children who took turns staying with her. She especially enjoyed going out to eat and
having a piece of pie.

Isabel died suddenly May 10, 1988 in Mytue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa of viral pneumonia. She
was 82 years, 1 month, and 7 days.

1904 in Defiance, Iowa, and died 02-Jul-1989 in Los angeles, California. He married (1) SARAH/VERA
LUCILLE HAYDEN 24-Jun-1933 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He married (2) MILDRED VIOLA MULLER 06-Dec-
1946 in Glendale, California, daughter of WALT MULLER'S FATHER.

Notes for LAWRENCE DANIEL MILLER:
One of seven (7) children born into a hard working Iowa farm family at the turn
of the century. His father (J. Peter) was a proud and stern man. His mother
died one week after his 11th birthday and his father had his hands full running
a farm and raising 5 rambunkous sons alone. (The daughters married and left
shortly after their mother's death.) His schooling was interruped because of
demands on the farm (common in those days in the midwest), He joined the U.S.
Navy at age 19 and stayed through WW II (22 years active duty). His longest
and proudest service was on the battleship U.S.S. Idaho. His trade specialty
was Machinist Mate. Served most of WW II in the Pacific theater.

He was a proud and ambitious man who worked hard all his life to rise above his
modest circumstances. He read extensively and expanded his education while in
the Navy. He rose through the Navy enlisted and NCO ranks and eventually
achieved a war time commission of Lt. (j.g.). When he left active duty in
1945, he moved to Long Beach, CA where he began a long, successful, and
rewarding career in Real Estate. He was very active in civic affairs and a
member of Tostmasters International where he took pride in polishing his
speaking style and winning numerous competitions.

Following the breakup of his marriage to Vera l. Hayden in 1944, he married the
sister (Mildred Viola Muller LeMaster) of his sister Kate's husband Walter
Muller on 6 Dec 1946. "Millie" was a wise and gentle person more compatible
with his difficult temperment and childhood background. She was a stalwart
helpmate in the growth of his real estate business.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was his hero. Unflinchingly patriotic and proud of his
Navy serivce. Never owned any color or type car but a black Chevrolet. (Each
of which he kept for years. Very fiscally conservative and not prone to self
indulgence. (Probably an acquired trait from his father's poor experience in
this area.) Favorite motto: "Procrastination is the thief of time" - which he
had framed and hung over his office desk for years.

Notes for SARAH/VERA LUCILLE HAYDEN:
Vera was actually named Sarah at birth (presumably in honor of her maternal
Grandmother) but was always called Vera. It wasn't until well into her adult
life that she discovered this when applying for a copy of her birth
certificate. At that time she had it formally changed to reflect the name she
understood to be her given name: Vera.

Vera and Vernon ("Buddy") were surprise twins, the shock of which reportedly
hastened the death of their maternal grandmother, Sarah Peebles (or Peoples)
Croom, who was living in the household and died less than 2 weeks after their
birth. Vera was devoted to Buddy. They shared a circle of friends that were
an integral part of her entire life. His death (9/17/43) while flying a night
mission in Hawaii in WW II was a profound loss that she never overcame. This,
followed shortly thereafter by the death of her youngest child Donald (6/26/44)
and her divorce from Lawrence formed a crucible of sadness that haunted her
entire life. She went to business school to support herself and her remaining
child (L.D., Jr.). Her second marriage to Wilson Rowe 11/19/46 (a wounded WW
II Army vetern who had been in Buddy's large circle of friends) was a very happy
one. She has been a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and aunt to her
family.

Generous to a fault, she gives unselfishly of herself and has more friends than
anyone I know. She has always had a keen eye for color and fashion. Her home
and person are always pleasing to the eye and identify her as a woman of good
class and taste. With her excellent taste and color coordination skills, she
probably would have had an excellent career in interior deccorating had she
ever taken it up professionally.

OBITUARY- MISSOULA
Matt Goeres, 90, died peacefully in his sleep of natural
causes Friday, Dec 24, at his home.
He was born Oct, 31, 1903 in Clark, SD to John and Mary Goeres. The
family was quarantined in Clark during the winter of 1905-06 when his
father contracted small pox. In July 1907, he traveled with his parents and
two borthers, John and Frank, to their homestead in South Fork Township,
Adams County, ND. The family built a sod house small enough for the canvas
off the wagon to cover the roof and tore the wagon box apart for a door and
roof supports. His father worked the homestead until his death in 1940.
Matt's mother passed away the following year.
Matt grew up on the prairie, was educated in one-room schools and
attended auto school with his brother Frank in Aberdeen, SD in the winters
of 1926-27 and 1927-28. In his late teens and early 20's, Matt farmed in
the summers and hunted coyotes and trapped during the winters. For
entertainment, he played baseball and rode broncos.
On May 12, 1930, he married Agnes O'Donnel at Sacred Heart Church in
Morristown, SD. The couple farmed in North Dakota until health problems
forced Matt's retirement in 1962. They then sold their farm and moved to
Missoula.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish and past member of the Moose
Lodge and Welcoma Club. Matt enjoyed dancing, bowling, hunting, fishing,
and most of all, visiting with his countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Frank; son
Jim in 1988; an infant grandson and an infant great-grandson.
His family and friends will miss him. However, Matt will always be
remembered for his two greatest assests; his memory and sense of humor.
Surviviors include his wife, Agnes; a brother, Lloyd Goeres, Lemmon,
SD; a sister, Margaret Hedger, Missoula; three daughters, Eileen Nedved,
Coram; Evelyne Ricker, Missoula; and Jeanette Holmes, El Paso, Texas, three
sons, Leonard, Dickinson, ND; and Lee and Ray, both of Missoula; 27
grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9 am-7 pm Wednesday at
Livingston-Malleta and Geraghty Funeral Home, with a parish vigil service
at 7 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday at the St. Anthony

71. MATTHEW DUANE5 MILLER (DUANE LEO4, FRANK J.3, ANNA2 GOERES, PETER1, FRANCIOSA, PIERREB, CORNELIUSC)
was born 05-Oct-1967 in Denison, Crawford county, Iowa, USA. He married CORINNE MEGHAN SAUNDERS
13-Nov-1993 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of RICHARD SAUNDERS and BARBARA SHANNON.

	i.	COLETTE ISABEL6 MILLER, b. 18-Sep-1995, Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa, USA.

Notes for COLETTE ISABEL MILLER:
Colette was born on Monday, September 18, 1995 at 12:23pm. She weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz., and was 19 1/2 inches long.
Corinne had her first contractions at 5:30am and her water broke shortly thereafter. After making a few phone calls to the
grandparents to be and after Matt watered the outside plants, they were at the hospital by 7:30am.
The labor progressed fairly rapidly for Corinne's first baby and she only required a sedative, called statal. Right before
Corinne started pushing at about 11:00am, Corinne's sister, Michelle Duffy, called the hospital and reached the labor room.
The nurse answered as Corinne was having a contraction and was "yelling" that "I can feel the head and I have to push."
Michelle heard that and got pretty upset, to say the least!
As Colette was born, it was truly love at first sight with her parents. Grandma and Grandpa Miller arrived at about
1:00pm as Grandpa had the day off of work and they drove up to see the arrival of their new grandaughter. Colette and
Corinne were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, September 20th.
Matt's company, Norand, started their International Sales Meeting on the day Colette was born. Matt was due to make
several presentations during that week but little Colette was a good enough excuse to be on vacation instead.
The total bill for Colette's birth was $ for the Mercy Hospital labor and visit and $1,750 for the pre-natal OB/GYN
visits and doctor fee during labor. The Norand insurance covered $ for the hospital and $ for the pre-natal visits.
