The sale of United States savings bonds from post offices will be discontinued at the close of business today, according to a postal bulletin received recently by Postmaster Marion EURITT. Sales will be concentrated in banks serving the various communities.

Mrs. Bob LYNCH of Maloy was elected president of the Mount Ayr High School Alumni Association Monday evening when graduates, members of their families and friends gathered at the schoolhouse for a potluck dinner and dance. In response to roll call by classes, Grant L. HAYES, representing the class of 1908, was the oldest graduate present.

An REA loan in the amount of $500,000 to the Nodaway-Worth Electric Cooperative has been approved, according to a telegram received Tuesday from Congressman K. LeCompte. The fund will be used to connect 378 miles of lines in the area served by the cooperative which includes five counties in Missouri, the southwest corner of Ringgold countyand parts of Taylor and Page counties in Iowa.

Three Mount Ayr couples have during the past week celebrated 176 years of happy wedded life. On Dec. 24, Mr. and Mrs. Fred JOHNSON quietly observed their 57th anniversary. A family dinner was enjoyed Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. MAGGARD on the occasion of their 68th anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. E. NICHOLS observed their 59th anniversary Dec. 30. And Mr. and Mrs. George N. POTTORFF of Hatfield, MO (but were married in Mount Ayr) today observe their 66th anniversary.

The Methodist church in Lamoni was the setting Christmas evening at 7 o'clock for the wedding of Miss Gloria GROSE of Ellston and Joe REED of Beaconsfield.

The United Presbyterian church in Tingley was the setting for a wedding at 2:30 o'clock Christmas Day when Miss Mary Alice BOYD of Cocoa, FL became the bride of Elmer HUCKOBA, Jr.

Ellston - Two business placed in Ellston will change hands Jan. 1: the Ellston Produce to Lee CREVELING and the tavern to Joy FAY from Malcom DYKE.

BIRTHS REPORTED FROM RINGGOLD COUNTY HOSPITAL:

  • December 23, a daughter, Benna Lynn, to Mr. and Benjamin YARRINGTON, Lamoni
  • Decenber 26, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Everett FLETCHER, Mount Ayr
