. . . Our Purpose
The Friends of IAGenWeb exist for the sole purpose of funding The IAGenWeb Project, which is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to gathering and presenting Iowa genealogical and historical information for free, online access by researchers.
The IAGenWeb Project was founded on August 6, 1996, by a few people dedicated to having genealogical information free on the Internet.
Today The IAGenWeb Project consists of 92 volunteers working to transcribe data, develop web sites and respond to questions on the 99 county sites.
Programs funded by the Friends of IAGenWeb have enabled us to achieve new heights in the gathering and presentation of genealogical information. They include:
- Iowa Genealogy Boards that now have thousands of names in obituaries, news items, biographies and more.
- Gravestone Photo Project that contains more than 270,000 photos.
- Search engines that can search all of the county boards.
