Disaster struck a little after noon Tuesday, when two Ringgold county men were killed in a freak accident at FS Grain and Feed Ltd. in Mount Ayr. Killed in the accident were Frank HUNT, 52, Diagonal, farmer, and Larry GREGG, 37, of Kellerton, who was an employee at FS Grain and Feed.

Sean THOMAS of Mount Ayr Community high school has attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as a member of the 1986 All-State Chorus. THOMAS, a sophomore at MACHS, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert THOMAS of Mount Ayr and is a vocal student of Susan GREENE. He sings bass and has been active in the chorus and swing choir the past two years.

This was a good sweet potato growing season in the garden of Dean and Rose FUGATE of Kellerton this summer. The FUGATES grew a three-and-one-half pound, 15-inch-long sweet potato. The plants for the sweet potatoes were purchased at an area greenhouse.

Mildred BOYD, who has been employed at the Ringgold County Department of Human Services for the past 22 years, will be retiring on October 31, 1986. Mrs. BOYD will continue to live in Tingley where she has an income tax service in her home.

Cathy WARD, manager of Iris' Beauty Salon in Mount Ayr, has been elected and installed as president of the Iowa Cosmetology Association at the 52nd Annual Convention held October 25, 26 and 27 at the Stouffers Five Seasons Hotel in Cedar Rapids. She is currently a hair stylist at Iris' Beauty Salon in Mount Ayr and also an instructor at Hair Tech School of Cosmetology in Creston.

Robert MYERS, supervisor telephone services and Kenny HEBENSPERGER and Francis (Bud) AYRES, both communications technicians, were honored at a dinner recently for 20 years of service with Contel. All work out of the Mount Ayr Contel office.

A Mount Ayr resident was among 11 Iowa Southern Utilities Company employees recognized for their long service with the company during a dinner held in their honor at the Creston Elks Club recently. Receiving special recognition for 40 years of service was Alvin "Leroy" BLESSMAN, area operating supervisor at Mount Ayr.

As of this Tuesday, a total of $3,213.89 has been turned in from the 1986 CROP Walk which was held October 5 in Ringgold county. There is still about $80 to be turned in, according to CROP chairman Rev. Dorie HANSON, which will bring the total very close to last year's $3,350.
