Places' Discount Stores, headquartered in Bethany, MO, and operating stores in Mount Ayr and 28 other rural communities in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa, is completing a tranaction that will make the 80-year-old retailer an employee-owned company.
Wonder what the new flashing strobe light is in the night sky over Mount Ayr? IowaSouthern Utilities has erected a 350-foot guyed tower near Mount Ayr to support antennas connected into the utilities communications network. The tower is located on company-owned land at the junction of Highways 2 and 169 at the west edge of Mount Ayr.
Gunnar Oswald, an exchange student from Germany, has felt a warm welcome offered by the students at Mount Ayr Community schools; his host family, Dick and Maralene Longfellow and their daughters; and other adults in the area.
Jim Rotert qualified for the state wrestling tournament for the second year in a row.
