Frank CLARKE of Mount Ayr has received a bronze pin from the U.S. Treasury Department in recognition of six years of service as volunteer savings bonds chairman for Ringgold county. The pin was presented Sunday to Mr. CLARKE by George JACKSON, club president, during the annual picnic dinner of the Mount Ayr Businessmen's Club, served at the country club. Van BRINER, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Burl BRINER of Maloy, suffered six wounds in both hips Saturday about 5 p.m., when a .22-calibre rifle in the hands of Craig LYNCH was accidentally discharged. The accident happened when Craig, 14-year-old son of the Bob LYNCHES of Maloy, and Van left the LYNCH home with the rifle, which Mr. LYNCH planned to use in training his birddogs. As Craig stepped down from the porch, the gun was accidentally discharged and the bullets struck Van, who was in front of Craig, in the hips.

Bob ALLEN, 18, of Tingley township suffered fractures of both bones in his right forearm Tuesday afternoon about 4 p.m. when a tractor he was driving overturned. Employed by Harry SKARDA, ALLEN was mowing in a field, three miles east and two miles north of Tingley, when the accident happened. As the tractor started to tip on a ridge, ALLEN jumped off and managed to get out of its path. He walked to a pickup in the field and started to drive to the SKARDA home, when he was met by Mrs. SKARDA, who was taking him a cold drink. The SKARDAS brought the injured youth to the Ringgold County Hospital, where the fracturesswere reduced. ALLEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave ALLEN, graduated from the Mount Ayr Community high school in 1962 and plans to enter Iowa State University in Ames within a few days.

A total of approximately $5,000 has been contributed to the swimming pool fund in Mount Ayr. Contributions during the past week amounted to $3,750. Subscribers include the Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company, Iowa Southern Utilities Company, Hy-Vee Food Store and United Food Market.

Lewis BRAND apparently escaped serious injuries but suffered multiple bruises, when he was pinned under a residential garage Tuesday afternoon while a foundation was under construction. He and Ainslee TRIGGS were at work on the building when the accident happened at the McCULLOUGH property, known as the old Jake RABB place in north Mount Ayr. The building, supported by cement blocks and jacks, gave way while BRAND was cleaning out a trench for the pouring of footings and pressed him against the ground. He suffered from the weight of the building and experienced trouble breathing. Two wreckers were called but the building was too heavy to raise. However, they supported the building to the extent that workmen were able to release BRAND by digging him out.

Royce DAVIS of Mount Ayr won the annual Lenox Open Golf Tournament played Sunday, when he shot a one under par 98 over the 27-hold route. DAVIS had a 33, 31 and 34 for his three rounds on the par 33 course. Terry HORNING of Creston was second with a 101 while Don TYLER of Lenox placed third with a 103.
