Four young women led the graduating classes at Ringgold county area high schools when top academic honors were announced this week. Jennifer NEWTON, daughter of John and Betty NEWTON of Mount Ayr, was named valedictorian of the Mount Ayr Community high school graduating class. Erin SMITH, daughter of Alan and Valle SMITH of Mount Ayr, took salutatorian honors. Jennifer SCHLAPIA, daughter of Ron and Toni SCHLAPIA of Diagonal, was named valedictorian of the graduating class at Diagonal Community high school and Becky LUMBARD, daughter of Spencer and Ellie LUMBARD of Diagonal, took salutatorian honors.

John HYNEK, son of Bill and Angie HYNEK, took college classes since the summer of his eighth grade class to amass the hours needed to graduate with an AA degree while still in high school.

Lance BARKER, son of Dan and Jeanie BARKER of Benton, will graduate from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Services in Des Moines on Friday, May 30. BARKER will receive his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the graduation ceremonies.

Randall JACKSON, son of Richard and Camille JACKSON of Kellerton, graduated May 9 from the Drake School of Law.

Sarah Ruth SUCHER, granddaughter of Ruth EGLY of Mount Ayr, was crowned the new Miss Iowa Teen USA 1977 at the Wyndham Five Seasons Hotel in Cedar Rapids, on Sunday, April 20. Sarah is the daughter of Richard and Billie Ruth SUCHER of Urbandale.

The top 10 academic students in Mount Ayr Community high school's graduating class this year are Jennifer NEWTON, Erin SMITH, Jennifer WORTHINGTON, Angie LININGER, Brittany ROE, Anna Leigh WATSON, Erica PETERSOHN, Alicia STILL, Joe HYNEK and Cameron ADAMS.

Members of the Grand Valley dissolution committee finalized their recommendations on dissolve the school district on Wednesday, June 11, metting of the Grand Valley school board, according to Dennis CAMPBELL.
