Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 28, 1957

by Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Mary Jane PARK was appointed as the Mount Ayr Business and Professional Women's Club's representatvie to future meetings of the industrial committee of the Mount Ayr Businessmen's Club.

Mrs. Frank HORNE and Mrs. Floy DRAKE have been appointed to serve on the girls' county 4-H committee for the new year. They will replace Mrs. Arthur RAUCH and Mrs. Aubrey LYNCH, whose terms have expired. Mrs. Bob McCREARY was elected chairman of the committee.

Ringgold county farmers will be interested to know that a new variety of oats called "Newton" was reproduced this year under certification requirement, by Wayne TAYLOR of Lincoln township.

Seventy-two new members have been enrolled this fall in the county 4-H clubs. The largest number of new members has been enrolled by the Clearfield Jets and Union Loyal Lassies, each of which has seven. One new girls club has been organized at Delphos, the Delphos Melody Girls, with Mrs. Bill SMITH and Mrs. Marie CAVENDER as leaders.

The residence property of Mr. and Mrs. Fred JOHNSON was damaged by fire which started Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. from an overheated stove. The efficient Mount Ayr fire department soon had the blaze under control and the damage was confined to the living room. Volunteer workers cleaned up the debris, made the necessary repairs and had the room ready for occupancy by 10 p.m. that night.

Jim BURGE will serve as fund-raising chairman for the 1958 March of Dimes campaign in Ringgold county, announcement of which has been made by Milton HENDERSON, Ringgold county chairman of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.
