RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
March 28 & 31, 1916

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

More than eighty people attended the Victrola concert at the Nichol Book Store yesterday. The store was seated with chairs and Margaret McQuigg and Mrs. Ruth Carmichael assisted with the entertaining. Punch was served.

John K. White, proprietor of the Caledonia Store, has purchased from George Hacker his stock of merchandise at Ringgold City and will continue the business at the old stand. Mr. White will continue to run both stores and will be assisted by his daughter, Pearl White.

Three hundred and eighty-two votes were cast in the town election held yesterday in Mount Ayr. The successful candidates are James Beard, mayor; H. L. Brams, J. A. Logan, W. F. Chance, Charles Teale and A. H. Lewis, councilmen; A. H. Bickett, assessor; and R. A. Lawhead, treasurer.

Alf Lewis and C. H. Defenbaugh have leased the Tullis livery barn, possession to be given tomorrow. They will conduct a first-class feed barn and buy horses.

F. H. Miars purchased last week the interest of his partner, L. P. Todd, in the Star Theatre. Mr. Miars has rented the Princess Theatre on the southeast corner to that location after an addition of thirty feet to the rear of the building, a new floor is built and the interior redecorated.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES: The senior class will present a farce-comedy entitled "A Bachelor's Elopement" in about three weeks. The cast included Marcy Buck, Emma Lou Lepley, Harry Spurrier, Roe Main, Norman Barnes and Ernest Tennant.

DIAGONAL - Floy McLaughlin had accepted the position of first primary teacher in our schools and will look after the little tots the remainder of the year.

KELLERTON - The Ringgold County Savings Bank has installed a new bookkeeping machine and it is a mechanical marvel. It is the Burroughs adding-subtracting model and cannot make a mistake.

KNOWLTON - Blanche Moreland has resigned her position as teacher of the intermediate room in the Knowlton school and Opal Parkins was hired for the remainder of the school year.

TINGLEY - At the city election held in Tingley yesterday, John Fraser was elected mayor; Chas. Haver, treasurer; E. E. Bosworth, assessor; and A, R. Hass, H. Breckenridge, Hallie Blackmore, Jonas Fender and John Heyer, councilmen.

Births:

  • Mr. and Mrs. Earl Anderson are the proud parents of an eight-pound baby boy.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hunter or Washington township, are the parents of a son, born March 27. Weight, nine and one-half pounds.
