U.S. Congressman Tom HARKIN today announced at $134,730 long-term, low-interest loan for Kellerton Housing, Inc., of
Kellerton for a rural rental housing project. HARKIN said the funds will be used to fiance eight one-bedroom units designated
for senior citizens. Each apartment will have a living room, dining and kitchen area, bedroom and bath.
The 11th Heinold hog market in Iowa will soon be under construction on Route 169 near Mount Ayr. The 9,000 square foot market,
plus loading chutes and office space, is expected to be in operation late this fall. It will be constructed by Wicks
Building Service of Creston and have the capacity to handle 1,000 hogs per day. The Mount Ayr market will be the 82nd
Heinold hog market in seven midwestern states.
Work began July 17 on Mount Ayr's new 100,000 gallon water tower located in the 300 block on North Pierce Street, just
south of the railroad tracks. This tower will be in addition to the present one which holds 60,000 gallons. It is being
built by P. D. M. Hodrostorage Inc. of Des Moines for $118,000.
Paul DAILEY, 32-year-old Maloy farmer, received serious head injuries in an accident thathappened while he was calf
roping Sunday afternoon at a Hatfield, MO horse show and roping contest. DAILEY was reported by realtives to have been
thrown from his horse, falling under the animal and when the horse got it it stomped on DAILEY. He was brought to
the Ringgold County Hospital by an ambulance available at the scene and later was transferred to Iowa Methodist Medical
Center in Des Moines where he is in the intensive care unit. He was reported to still be unconscious Monday.
Mrs. Dean JACKSON of rural Kellerton was installed as Fifth District President of the American Legion Auxiliary on
July 23 at the Department Convention held at the Hilton Inn in Des Moines.
