Marvin TRIGGS of Mount Ayr was recently inducted into the Spotted Breeders Hall of Fame during the Iowa State Fair. TRIGGS, 61, has been in the show ring since the age of nine and has shown hogs at the state fair every year since 1942 with the exception of two years when he was serving in the Army. He would show both in the 4-H division and in the open class while a youth. He has sold boars and gilts all over the Midwest and overseas. TRIGGS states probably his best boar was Hawkeye Foreman which went on to be the 1998 Big Boar winner at the state fair and was also ranked the number one sire in a national sire summary for two years. TRIGGS' father, J. W. TRIGGS, was also a member of the Iowa Spotted Breeders Hall of Fame.

Two Ringgold county farms received Century Farm honors at the state fair last week. The SHAHA Brothers farm near Mount Ayr has been in the family since 1856. The Lyndon and Lucinda TAYLOR farm of rural Mount Ayr has been in their family since 1893.

New teachers at the Diagonal Community school include Amy THOMPSON, second grade; Wendy MOORE, fourth grade; Jane EKLUND, Chapter 1 and cheerleading sponsor; and Lynette RISSE, Kingergaten - eighth grade art, who will be shared with Clearfield school district.

Two new teachers were hired for the Mount Ayr Community staf this year. Jill TAYLOR WEEHLER will be the elementary special education teacher while Joe CANTANZARETTI will teach junior high and high school language arts. Classes will begin for the district on August 29.

Some $1,800 in merchandise was stolen from Mount Ayr Video during a break-in some time late Friday, August 12 or early August 13. The back door was broken into with a crow bar. Thieves made off with two VCRs, 120 VHS tapes, including 30 XXX-rated tapes and three Super Nintendo games. This was the third time the store had been robbed according to the owners.

Stacy M. SHAUB of Chariton, daughter of Mrs. Julene FINNEY of Lincoln, IL and granddaughter of Mr.and Mrs. Donald GRIMES of Mount Ayr, was married on April 30, 1994 to Stephen DAVIS, son of Larry and Linda DAVIS of Chariton. The couple will make their home in Chariton.

Shirley and Howard MARTIN of Mount Ayr will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception at the American Legion. They were married on August 17, 1969.

LBanks and Luella WILSON of Mount Ayr will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at the Mount Ayr Golf & Country Club on September 4.
