Three youg men and one young woman led the graduating classes of Ringgold county high schools when top academic honors were announced last week. The students included Joshua RUSK, Amanda JOHNSON, Brian GUNSOLLEY and Isaac LUMBARD. Joshua RUSK, son of Al and Dorene RUSK of Clearfield, was the valedictorian of the Mount Ayr Community class of 2000 and Amanda JOHNSON, daughter of Scott and Cindy JOHNSON of Mount Ayr, was salutatorian of the class. Brian GUNSOLLEY, son of Frank and Joan GUNSOLLEY of Diagonal, was valedictorian of the Diagonal class of 2000 and Isaac LUMBARD, son of Spencer and Elinor LUMBARD of Diagonal, was salutatorian.

Members of the Mount Ayr Community Raider track team headed for the state meet in Des Moines are Ian OBRECHT, Travis HARTMAN, Scott RUMPLE, Brett SHIELDS, Brad ELLIOTT, Jerremy BURMEISTER, David HOSFIELD, Landry McGAHUEY, Caleb STILL and Luke STILL.

Mount Ayr Veterinary Clinic and Hilltop Veterinary Clinic co-sponsored a dog jog during National Pet Week May 7-13. The dogs and their owners met at the Old Depot on Saturday, May 13. Winners included Brittany DRAKE with her black lab Sally which placed second and Allison WALTERS with her Brittany spaniel Sweets which placed first.

A milestone in donating blood at visits to Ringgold county by the Red Cross Bloodmobile was reached by a Tingly man Monday. Roger MORRISON of Tingley donated the unit of blood that put him at 18 gallons since he began donating blood after returning home from the service in January of 1953.

Ringgold County EMS announced the winners of the National Emergency Medical Services Week poster contest for fifth graders at Mount Ayr Community elementary school. Winners included Jess PIERSCHBACHER, Lucas SMITH, Emily UHLENKAMP, Matt WIMER, Brian INLOES and Kayli MEYER.
