Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 25, 1985

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

From "dime store" to "family center," the P. M. Place stores in county seat towns in northern Missouri and southern Iowa have been added one-by-one until last year. Now they number 32 stores, as the chain celebrates a 75th anniversary this year.

Five Ringgold county Futures Farmers of America members were named to the "Iowa Farmer Degree' and one, Peter HAYSE of Mount Ayr, received the Iowa Star Agribusiness designation, one of the top awards in the FFA on the state level during the 57th annual FFA state leadership conference in Des Moines last week. Names Iowa Farmers from Mount Ayr Community high school FFA chapter were Peter HAYSE, Rod DAVISON and Rick RICHIE, while Jill SCHWALBE and Tracy LESAN were named from the Grand Valley Community high school FFA chapter.

Three schools - Grand Valley, Diagonal, and Clearfield - have been involved in dialogue and information giving and gathering sessions with representatives of Green Valley Area Education Agency in the past two weeks. The various meetings were in response to complying with a new law, passed by the Iowa legislators last summer, regarding operating schools with enrollment of 300 or less.

Car strippers only left the farme, major panels and the roof, along with four midget spare tires to roll the shell along on, when they took everything imaginable and abandoned the rest in Ringgold county Monday on J-67 near the Ringgold-Decatur county and Missouri-Iowa borders.

Mark HICKMAN was named the outstanding senior vocal music student with the American Choral Director's Association award at the spring vocal music concert. He is the son of Janet and Lowell HICKMAN of rural Diagonal.

Wes ERAL has recently been named clinical supervisor at the Harold HUGHES Treatment Center at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
