Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mercy Hospital Medical Center's new Mercy Air Life Emergency Helicopter paid a visit to Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr Monday afternoon as part of a tour to introduce the hospital's new service. The twin-engine Bell 222 Utility Twin helicopter is scheduled to begin its mission of carrying critically injured or ill patients November 1. The trip from Des Moines to Mount Ayr can be made in between 20 and 30 minutes in the helicopter.

The Sandy MERCER benefit held Saturday, Oct. 18, at Sun Valley Lake was expected to glean over $6,400 to be presented to the MERCER family. The money was needed, they thought, to defray expenses incurred when extensive and continuous treatment has gone toward bringing back to health, Sandy, who was seriously injured in an August 2 moped-stock trailer collision at the intersection of her home's farm driveway, eight miles northeast of Mount Ayr.

New owners of Mount Ayr Foods in Mount Ayr are two brothers, Kelly and Donna THORNTON and Kris and Rob THORNTON, originally from Indianola. The THORNTONS purchased the former Don's Ayrliner.

Racinda JACKSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard JACKSON of Kellerton, was elected the 1986-87 District 14 FHA-HERO president. JACKSON was elected to the top office out of 12 officer candidates from 16 area schools. Grand Valley also has the distinction of having a state FHA-HERO officer. Jennifer HULLINGER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William HULLINGER of Kellerton, served as district vice-president forthe 1985-86 term and is currently state secretary in the organization.

When the Ringgold County Extension office opens for business November 3, its office assistant, Hazel WALKER, will probably be home beginning retirement. Mrs. WALKER,for 22 years, has been seated at the reception desk either in the basement of the post office or at its present location just east of the northeast corner of the Mount Ayr square.

Roger HINTZ of Maloy grew a 300-pound pumpkin this year among other big pumpkins. He planted a special seed to get the big pumpkins.
