Discussion of what to do with the Grand Valley school building and other property headlined the discussion for the Grand Valley school board at its meeting Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Erralee BAILEY of Mount Ayr will be a member of the 277-piece all-state band when the 51st annual Iowa All-State Music Festival is held in Ames this weekend. BAILEY will be playing the E-flat alto clarinet in the band for a second year in a row. BAILEY is a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school and is the daughter of Perry BAILEY of Mount Ayr.

Mount Ayr Community junior Scott LAURIETSEN was named first alternate on the tenor saxophone. LAURIETSEN is the son of Robert and Phyllis LAURIETSEN of Ellston.

Dustin WILEY and Darren MARTIN, both of Mount Ayr, both received the American FFA degree, the highest degree awarded by the National FFA organization, at the national convention in Kansas City, MO last week. WILEY is the son of Linda PICKERING of Mount Ayr and Danny WILEY of Mapleton, MN and is a 1996 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school. MARTIN is the son of Howard and Shirley MARTIN of Mount Ayr and is a 1994 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.

The final courses of bricks were being finished up on the back side of the new Family Resource Center building, which is being built across the road to the north of the Mount Ayr Community elementary school building. Plans are to have the building completed by February 1. The center will house several pre-school and child care programs in the community.

A new manager has taken over at the Place's store in Mount Ayr recently. Jayne HARDY is the new manager of the store here. She was born in Mount Ayr and is a graduate of Central Decatur high school. This is HARDY'S first management position with the company.

At a recent Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce meeting, Mary WIESE resigned after serving 14 years as the Mount Ayr welcome person.
