The Mount Ayr City Council discussed different methods for removing starlings from the tress on the south side of the courthouse lawn.

RINGGOLD COUNTY FAIR

Amy HYNEK, daughter of Bill and Angie HYNEK of Beaconsfield, was crowned queen of the Ringgold County Fair and Amanda Lynn PERRIGO, daughter of Roland and Fran JACKSON of Mount Ayr was crowned county fair princess on the opening night of the fair Wednesday. First runner-up was Amanda WERNER, daughter of Steve and Marilyn WERNER of Shannon City. Second runner-up was Ashley HENSEL, daughter of Lisa and Charles HENSEL of Arispie.

Abby STEPHENS of the Twin River Tornadoes was selected out of the seven girls participating in the clothing selection contest to advance to the state fair. She was runner-up last year.

Brett HEWLETT showed the grand champion market beef in the cattle show. Erick RICHARDSON showed the grand champion market hog. Tanner ENGLAND had the grand champion market lamb and the reserve grand champion market lamb.

Ruth HAYES won the best of show award for her needlework project at the open class competition at the Ringgold County Fair. A total of 101 talented people displayed a wide range of projects with over 336 projectes entered for judging.

Ribbon cutting at Athena's House, located at 108 E. Madison Street in Mount Ayr, was held by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the opening of the new business in Mount Ayr. The card and gift shop is helping brighten up the block east of the square.

Three Ringgold county race drivers all placed in the top five in the A feature at the I-35 Raceway in Winston, MO Saturday night. Russell STEWART of Mount Ayr finished third in his heat and then placed second in the A feature. Dan BARBER of Mount Ayr placed second in his heat and then took third place in the A feature. Scott PETERSON of Mount Ayr placed third in his heat and fifth in the A feature.

A special day of services is planned at the Mount Ayr Assembly of God Sunday, June 23. The new minister for the church, Rev. Patrick WILLIAMSON and his wife, Sheila, will be here for their first services. The WILLIAMSONS have been pastors in South Dakota and Iowa.
