RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 19, 1956

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Alvin L. VARNER, who has served since April 16, 1952 as district manager for the Iowa Southern Utilities for the Iowa Southern Utilities Company, will be promoted to a like position in the company's district at Leon, effective August 15.

To fill the vacany caused by Mr. VARNER'S transfer, W. F. HUTCHINSON, present district manager at Sigourney, will return to the office at Mount Ayr, effective August 15.

Mrs. Alvin VARNER is the recipient of an adult life membership pin in the Women's Society of Christian Service, presented her Monday night by the Wesleyan Service Guilt of the local Methodist Church, of which organization she is an active member.

The cattle barn on the John WARIN farm, west of Maloy, was damaged by fire yesterday morning abut eight o'clock after it had been struck by lightning. The Blockton, Clearfield and Mount Ayr fire departments responded to the alarm. The blaze was confined to the loft. The loss was estimated at about $500. The property was insured by the Clyde LESAN Company.

The Wallace TEALE residence property in Kellerton was damaged by fire Sunday morning in an amount estimated at more than one thousand dollars. The Kellerton fire department responded to the alarm which was sounded when the fire was observed on the roof about 10 o'clock. The damage was confined to the attic and roof and it is believed that insulation kept the flames from spreading to the lower parts of the residence. The TEALES were in Minnesota at the time but returned home upon learning of their loss. The property was insured with the Kellerton Insurance Agency.
