Three directors were re-elected to the board of the Rideta Electric Cooperative at the cooperative's annual meeting in Mount Ayr Tuesday night. Newly named directors are Richard MICKELSON of Lamoni, Roger MOORE of Kent and Eldon RICKER of Diagonal. Rideta manager is Larry HOPKEY. Members were told that talks with RECs at Osceola and Greenfield about possible benefits of consolidation have been discontinued for the present at least. Members will also be facing a 5.4 percent rate increase effective November 1, 1986, those present were told.

It comes as no surprise that the agricultural statistics for 1985 are better than those for 1984 in Ringgold county. Some crops had yields of more than twice as muchi n 1985 than in 1984, according to the compilation of statistics released this week in 1986 Agricultural Statistics, issued by the state agricultural statistics service. "There were 10 less farms in Ringgold county in 1985 than in 1984," according to the report. With the same number of acres in production -- 337,700 acres -- the average farm size grew to 450 acres from 444 acres. There were 750 farms in 1985.

Almost 450 people were served as Tingley celebrated homecoming 1986 with games, a barbecue and music Sunday afternoon and evening.

Nestled in the hills and wooded area of southern Ringgold county, the Middle Fork open country church is celebrating this weekend, Sept. 20-21, 100 years of ministering to area United Methodists. It is the only open country church of the four in the Mount Ayr Larger Parish (Middle Fork, Mount Ayr, Redding and Blockton).

Special plaques were presented by the Ringgold County Hospital to two retiring health professionals during the tea and open house celebrating the hospital's 35th anniversary held during Ayr Days Sunday, Sept. 7. Hospital board president Dale BICKEL made a presentation to Florence and Charles LAWHEAD, recognizing the contribution that Dr. LAWHEAD has made to the community in his dental practice through the years. Dr. Duane MITCHELL made a presentation to Roy and Fran FELL, recognizing the years that Dr. FELL has provided medical services to the community.

Hawkeye Insurance Services of Des Moines has sold its local office at Hawkeye Bank & Trust in Mount Ayr to Bob Roe Insurance Services. The office will remain in the bank and be owned and operated by Bob ROE, agent.

Eric and Laurel MOE of MountAyr Community, both were second place finishers in their first cross country competition at Winterset on Sept. 9. Laurel finished second in the race for freshmen girls with a time of 10:04. Eric was second in the sophomore race in a time of 8:14.

Funds for the beautification project for the Ringgold county courthouse square have reache nearly the halfway mark with the help of a $250 contribution to the fund from the Mount Ayr Community Future Farmers of America chapter.
