As the Olympic flame makes its way toward Salt Lake City, UT for the Winter Olympics, at least two people with Ringgold county ties have been selected to carry the torch. Tracy CAMPBELL HORN of Olathe, KS carried the torch in the Kansas City, MO area Wednesday, Jan. 9. HORN is the daughter of J. R. and Ann CAMPBELL of Topeka, KS and the granddaughter of Edith CAMPBELL of Blockton and the late Jack CAMPBELL. Teri KRAMER ROKUSEK of Reinbeck, a former Mount Ayr resident, carried the torch Thursday, Jan. 10, in Omaha, NE. ROKUSEK, a 1981 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school, is elementary principal at Reinbeck elementary school where staff members nominated her.

Vicki SICKELS was re-elected to another year as president of the Ringgold County Hospital board; Mike KEMERY as vice president, and Patty PARRISH as secretary.

Dillon COMBS, 140 pound wrestler for the Atlantic Trojans, reached his 100th career win at the Tri-Center Wrestling Tournamentat Neola. COMBS is only the fourth wrestler in Atlantic history to join the 100 Win Club. He is the son of Richand Luann COMBS, former Mount Ayr residents, and the grandson of Gaylan and Penny COMBS of MountAyr.

Seven Mount Ayr Community high school students and 10 Diagonal Community high school students will take part in the district large group speech contest at Clarke Community high school in Osceola Saturday. [From] Mount Ayr are Kelsey ALLEN, Sean KILGORE, Mikki STEWART, Breanna McDONNELL and Katy KIMBLEY. Diagonal will be represented by Shauna KILGORE, Abby STEPHENS,Charles ANDREWS, Bradley BENTLEY, Tory WALKUP, Renae SMITH, Gina GUNSOLLEY, Wes STARLIN, Richard CASTELAN and Alex STEPHENS. Shaun KNIEP is speech coach for Diagonal Community high school.
