The Mount Ayr Raiders downed the Bedford Bulldogs, 66 to 57, in a crucial conference game played Friday night on the local court, and the win gave Mount Ayr the Blue Grass Conference title. Both teams went into the championship game with 7-0 conference records. The loss was only the second one for the season for the Bedford cagers. This was the 15th undisputed basketball title won by Mount Ayr in the 17 years the Blue Grass converence has been organized. They shared the title in 1946 and were edged by Bedford in 1959.

Marriages announced in the 1960 issues of the Record-News numbered at an even 100, three more than in 1959. During June, the traditional "month of brides," 22 couples exchanged vows.

Boy Scout Troop 165 of Mount Ayr observed the 51st anniversary of the scouting movement during the week of February 7 to February 13. The theme of the week's celebration was "Strengthen America, Character Counts."

Mayor J. M. TURNER announced the appointment of Victor THOMPSON as marshal of Mount Ayr. He will assume his duties Thrusday, Feb. 16. Mr. THOMPSON succeeds William SCOTT. James WOOD will continue to serve as the other member of the police department.

According to Mrs. Walter ROBERTS, grade instrumental music instructor in the Mount Ayr Community school district, three entries from the Beaconsfield attendance center won I and II division ratings in the Southwest Iowa District junior high music contest held February 4 in Corning. Winners of I division ratings were Doris DUKES of Ellston, clarinet solo, and Margaret WALTERS, Doris DUKES, Kay SCHAEFER and Sylvia FAY of Ellston and Lois REASONER of Beaconsfield, clarinet quintet. A clarinet trio, composed of Doris DUKES, Margaret WALTERS and Lois REASONER, received a II division rating.
