Helping make Christmas happier for others was the goal of Mount Ayr community junior high students who gathered toys as part of a Mount Ayr Lions Club and Neighborhood Center project to renovte toys for children who might not otherwise have much of a Christmas. Among junior high students helping in the project were Doug WEBB, Brent WUSTER, Tisha SHIELDS, Tracy FORD, Tracy STEPHENS, Diana NEWBY, Rod SWEET and Robert McCLAIN.

Susan HUGHES of Mount Ayr District 18 been queen and the former Ringgold County beef queen, will compete in the state beef queen contest to beheld at the Iowa Cattlemen's Association headquarters in Ames Tuesday, Dec. 28. HUGHES is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arlen HUGHES of Mount Ayr.

Merritt TRIGGS of Mount Ayr was re-elected to the Iowa State Fair board of directors during the state agricultural meeting held last week in Des Moines. He joined the fair board in 1975 as representative of the Fifth Congressional District.

Births reported at Ringgold County Hospital this week:

  • A son, born Dec. 8, to Mr. and Mrs. Steve BAKER, Ridgeway MO.
  • A daughter, born Dec. 13, to Mr. and Mrs. Lannie HOWIE, Redding.
  • A son, born December 14, to Mr. and Mrs. Joe ROUTH, Mount Ayr.
