The Tingley community again will observe Halloween with its annual celebration on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Tingley people are proud to be celebrating 40 years of Halloween fun. Officers for 1987 are chairman, Al IBBOTSON; vice-chairman, Cindy ALLEN; secretary, Cathy R. MASON, and treasurer, John Alan OVERHOLTZER.

Susan THOMPSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max BUCKNER of Mount Ayr and Dean THOMPSON of New Market, was installed as Worthy Advisor of Mount Ayr Assembly, Rainbow for Girls, Sept. 20, 1987, during a ceremony in the Masonic Temple in Mount Ayr.

Melvin NEWTON, a former Ringgold county farmer, who was reared in this area, has been named as superintendent of schools at Newton-Kellogg. NEWTON is married to the former Helen HETZEL, also a Ringgold countian. Most recently he has been principal at Thomas Jefferson elementary school in Newton.

Mike COMBS, a 1987 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, has accepted a position at J. P. Industries (formerly Imperial Clevite) in Atlantic. He started work last Monday, Oct. 5.

A Mount Ayr student at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO has had a sculpture on display on the lawn east of Martindale Gymnasium on the campus this fall. Lynette KNIGHT of Mount Ayr is a student in the advanced sculpture class taught by Ken NELSON, assistant professor of art.

The soil judging team from the Mount Ayr Community high school Future Farmers of America chapter placed third in the 10th annual district contest held in Knoxville recently. The team placed third out of 21 teams in the competition and received a gold rating, qualifying them for the state meet to be held October 24 near Ames. Members of the team included Steve REEVE, Lee MARTIN, Dusty BARBER and Spence JONES. JONES was the fifth high individual out of the 84 students participating in the contest.
