A handsome, gold-plated loving cup, emblematic of $2,500,000 in life insurance policies issued during the past year, has been awarded the Leo HACKER Agency. The presentation was made to Mr. HACKER at a recent state meeting of Investors Life of Iowa, a comparatively new insurance company, which was established in 1959. The HACKER Agency, with headquarters in Mount Ayr, transacts business in seven southern Iowa counties -- Adams, Clarke, Decatur, Taylor, Ringgold, Union and Wayne.

W. E. KELLY of Redding, a Ringgold County Farm Bureau leader, was in Washington, D. C., this week when hearings began on Farm Bureau's cropland adjustment program.

The Cole Firestone team of Mount Ayr moved into sixth place in the booster team event in the American Bowling Congress meet Monday night in Des Moines. Members rolled a 2,756 team series, which featured a 1,022 second game, the highest team total game in the booster division of the meet this year. They had an 895 first game and finished with an 839. Bob ROE paced the Mount Ayr bowlers with a 604 series. Keith COLE had a 585; Bill MONAGHAN a 559; Lyle DULANY a 507, and Neil CHICKEN a 501.

Fire, which originated in the area of a gas floor furnace Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. HUMPHREYS, on Dunning Avenue, burned out part of the under structure and caused heavy smoke damage throughout the house.

Russell BOYD of Tingley, who has capably served as elementary principal in the Mount Ayr Community school district since the fall of 1960, has been elected to the position of administrator of the Ringgold County Hospital. Mr. BOYD, who will assume his new duties on June 1, will replace W. R. JOHNSTONE, who has announced his candidacy for senator from the fifth district.

The Clinton RICE rental dwelling,located on Sunset Lane in west Mount Ayr, was extensively damaged Tuesday afternoon by fire, which was believed to have started from a faulty floor furnace. A large area of the floor around the furnace was burned out and the walls and ceiling were extensively damaged.

Carolyn PRITCHARD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles PRITCHARD of Delphos, was one of 89 freshmen in the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, who received their caps in the annual ceremonies held March 2.
