Seven Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter members received the Iowa Farmer Degree when the state leadership conference was held in Ames last week. Seniors Lucas ANGUS, Kinda FISHER, Maggie GILLILAND, Daniel GRAHAM, Dustin STARK, Kevin TRULLINGER and Matt WEEDA received the award, joining 168 previous chapter members named to the award since 1940. The Iowa FFA Degree is the top award that FFA members can earn on the state level.

One of Ringgold county's service men who has been in Iraq will be returning home this week. Specialist Scott HENSELY, son of Jim and Kim HENSLEY of Mount Ayr, is in the Iowa National Guard's 186 Military Police Company out of Johnston.

A Ringgold county student was a winner in the Livestock Specialist Career Program Area overall team category at the 25th annual National post-secondary Agricultural Student conference recently held in Green Bay, WI. Randy DERSCHEID of Ellston, a Mount Ayr Community high school graduate, was the third place finisher in the contest.

Marv WOOLLUMS of Mount Ayr won the Iowa state indoor horseshoe championship held in Eldora Saturday. WOOLLUMS, who is also the state outdoor champion, won the Class A title with a 65 percent ringer percentage.
