RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 14, 2002

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mount Ayr community elementary school has been chosen for one of the KCCI-TV school weather stations and a celebration of the selection was held Monday at the school. A pizza party was held for students and their families and the students were featured in a live news broadcast for the 6 p.m. news on KCCI-TV. Weatherman John McLAUGHLIN broadcast the weather live from the elementary gymnasium with an excited crowd and signed autographs and handed out KCCI-TV promotional items to students. Rideta Electric Cooperative is the main sponsor of the new weather station, which went on-line Monday.

Three Ringgold county high school students have been named State of Iowa Scholars by the Iowa College Aid Commission and will be recognized by Governor Tom VILSACK. Named to the honor were two Mount Ayr community high school students -- Sean M. KILGORE of Diagonal and Holly M. MEESTER of Mount Ayr -- and a Lenox high school student -- Gentry R. BAKER of Clearfield.

Donna HEYER advocated her bill urging payment of the national debt during the 2001 session of the National Silver Haired Congress. She returned to take part in the program again this year.

One Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter entry received a gold medal and will advance to state competition at the state FFA convention in Des Moines in April. Mekenze BISHOP received a gold medal and advanced to the state competition in the job interview competition.
