Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

The first drag day celebration held in Ringgold county this year and probably the first in the state, was held at Maloy Wednesday and proved a great success. Twenty-one drags had arrived in town by noon, more than half of them being drawn by four-horse teams. A free dinner, provided for all the dragsters, was served by the ladies of the Christian Church. The judges, W. D. Link, H. C. Beard and Sam Spurrier, awarded the prizes as follows: 1st, J. L. Stephens; 2nd, Sam Worthington; 3rd, T. S. Shay, Jr.; 4th, R. E. Shay.

E. Parkhurst gave a free haircut and Lee Foster a free shave to every drag driver who wanted one.

KELLERTON - At the school election held at the town hall Monday afternoon, A. A. Peasley and J. L. Gooding, the only two candidates, were elected without opposition. G. L. Dickerson was elected treasurer.

Winnie Allen has resigned her position as clerk at the Frisby Store and will teach at the Highland School.

Verdi Belamy began work in her place on Monday.

At the annual school election held yesterday in Mount Ayr, R. A. Lawhead was re-elected treasurer, and Dr. M. F. Hannelly was elected a member of the board over the incumbent Attorney A. I. Smith. Mr. Smith has been a member of the board for the past nine years.

A pretty home wedding occurred in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lucas on March 15, when their daughter, Beulah V. was united in marriage to Reuben H. Knight. The impressive words were spoken by Re. A. M. Eastman. Iva Knight, sister of the groom, served as bridesmaid, and Carl Tennant served as best man. Mr. Knight is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Knight and a worthy, energetic and capable young farmer.

Births:

CALEDONIA - A son arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Spencer on March 8.
