While constructing a fence last summer on their father's farm in Liberty township, Robert and Warren BENNETT discovered a large and odd looking bone. Last week the bone was taken to the curator at the Historical Building in Des Moines, who announced it a calcified shoulder bone of a mastadon, probably beteen 75 and 100,000 years old. The curio was brought home and will be placed among others in the collection which is on display in the corridor of the second floor of the courthouse.

Miss Louise WEISSHAAR, who has served as director of nurses at the Ringgold County Hospital has been named by the hospital board of directors in the capacity of administrator. her contract will expire July 1, 1954.

Announcement is made of the consolidation of two Des Moines advertising agencies, the Blakemore Co. and the Walter E. Battenfield Co., with a New York firm to open a new agency in Des Moines to be known as J. M. Hickerson, Inc. with J. M. HICKERSON of New York, president and treasurer. HICKERSON is a native of Mount Ayr and received his early newspaper training in the Record-News office.

Cpl. Jack E. MARSHALL, who had been reported as "missing in action in Korea" since Dec. 2, 1950, has been listed by the army as "missing and presumed dead." He was one of 16 Iowans included on the list.

An all-expense paid trip to Chicago, IL for two persons has been won by Art LUCKINBILL, owner of Art's Radio Service in MOunt Ayr. LUCKINBILL was awarded the trip in recognition of his sales record of Sylvania TV sets.

Four business houses in Tingley were entered Monday night and the only loot [taken] was $25 in cash from the Wm. S. BRECKENRIDGE general store. The other places broken into were the Richards appliance store, the Harley BEEN babershop and the ARCHIBOLD gargae.

Dennis FOLTZ and Robert EVANS went yesterday to Des Moines as volunteers in response to Induction Call No. 45.

The red hot Raiders basketball team walloped th Creston Panthers, 63 to 44 Tuesdayevening in a non-conference duel at Creston. Ken PICKENS was high scorer for Mount Ayr with 20 points. EKLUND paced the Panthers with 16.

The Real Style Shop in Mount Ayr has Kay Whitney's dresses with the miracle cloth with orlon for $5.95. The miracle cloth washes in minutes, needs little care and is always in good taste.

Miss Sheryl HENDERSON, daughter of Mrs. Edna HENDERSON of Waukee, and Lee KEENAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rue KEENAN of Clearfield, were united in marriage Dec. 28 at the Christian parsonage in Bedford.

In a candlelight service solemnized New Year's Eve in the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, the lives of Miss Bettie Jean SMITH and John E. GARITY were united in marriage.
