Dr. Peggy WHITSON, NASA astronaut, visited with the elementary school students of Mount Ayr Community elementary school Monday. WHITSON, a 1978 graduate
of Mount Ayr Community High School, is in the midst of training as an astronaut which will be completed in April 1998. Then she will be assigned to a
shuttle flight.
Chuck BRABY of Mount Ayr was not elected to the Mount Ayr city council as preliminary results at the auditor's office Tuesday, Nov. 4, indicated.
BRABY had his name on the ballot for city council but then decided not to run too late to have his name removed from the ballott. Elected to the
city council were Kendrick JONES with 88 votes and Jerry HYNES with 81 votes, according to unofficial statistics from the auditor's office.
Kylee WELLING, granddaughter of Delbert and Bernadine ROUTH of Diagonal, led her Indianola team to the class 3A state cross country meet. She ran a
time of 12.26 in the state meet.
