RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 13, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

New Ringgold County Beef Queen for 1987 is Kris RICHARDS, daughter of Doyle and Connie RICHARDS, was crowned at the annual meeting of the Ringgold County Cattlemen's Association recently.

Authorization of the architectural firm of Dana Larson and Roubal to proceed with drainage plans at the high school and plans for demolition of the 1912 building and moving of heating and electrical service to the 1936 building at the elementary school was approved by the Mount Ayr Community school board Monday night.

Retirement from the Ringgold County Fair Board last month by John IRVING, 85, of rural Mount Ayr, brings to a close at least 50 years of service to that group. He was part of the first Iowans to show mules at a 1940 State Fair. IRVING had been the one to nominate Ringgold county's only other state fair board member in addition to Merritt TRIGGS, a present-day Ringgold county farmer. The man was Frank SHELDON, who at one time, was in a real estate and abstracting business, and also in the bank at Mount Ayr.

Pattie FOLTZ (Mrs. Phil) of rural Mount Ayr, was presented the Ringgold County "Elanco CowGal" award for 1986 at the annual county Cattlemen's Association banquet held Monday, Oct. 27.

A mutual interest in hunting and Masonic Lodge work brought two hunters from Tennessee and Virginia to Ringgold county and into a close fellowship with the Eldon MAIN family of Mount Ayr. What started as an answer to a hunter's need for a place to hunt and to stay, has culminated in an enduring friendship. It has been a mini-cultural exchange, adult-style, between the hunters, Ron MILLER of Kingsport, TN and Hobart QUILLON of Gate City, VA and Eldon and Dorothy MAIN.
