Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Two bullheads, one 12 1/2 inches and one 11 1/4 inches in length, caught by Kelly MAIN of Mount Ayr and Teena MORROW of Diagonal, respectively, won for them the honors of having landed the longest fish Sunday afternoon during the kids' Fish Day. Each received a glass rod and reel as a prize.

Miss Carmelita O'CONNOR and Mrs. Mary McDONALD, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. O'CONNOR of Maloy, graduated June 4 from Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, MO. Both recieved Master of Arts (research) degrees.

Bob MOSBARGER is included among the 1,552 seniors in Iowa schools who have been named to receive Merit Scholarships for freshmen at the State University of Iowa, Iowa City. Bob is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. MOSBARGER of Mount Ayr.

Chas. J. LEWIS of this city, judge of the third judicial district, was included among the 208 lawyers, who received award certificates last week during the 84th annual convention of the Iowa State Bar Association in Des Moines.

Ninety-six Simpson College students received diplomas and degrees June 2 at the college's 90th annual commencement ceremonies in Hopper Memorial Gymnasium, Indianola. Louis H. WILSON, son of Mrs. Maxine VANDERFLUGHT of Leon, received a bachelor of science in business administration degree. Arlan K. BROWN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter BROWN of Beaconsfield, received a bachelor of arts degree.

Mrs. Harrison LINK, R.N., of Tingley, has accepted the position of enrollment nurse and disaster nurse for this county for the Ringgold county chapter of the American Red Cross.

Keith DENNIS, 15-year-old sophomore in the Mount Ayr schools, drowned Monday [June 11, 1957] night while swimming near Summersville, MO. Keith was in the compnay of his uncle, Thomas DENNIS, who was conducting evangelistic meetings in Summersville and his tragic death occurred when they had gone swimming following the meeting.

NOTE: Keith was born on February 3, 1942, the son of Ivan and Nadine (SELBY) DENNIS. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. ~SRB

Ralph A. DUNCAN, who has taught industrial arts and world history in the Mount Ayr school for the past two years, has resigned his position with the local schools for the coming year. Mr. DUNCAN has been offered a position in the Iowa City public schools at a substantial increase in salary.

  • June 10, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin RAY, Grant City MO
  • June 11, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Dick BAILEY, Diagonal
