LaShay FRENCH and Wes ALLEN reigned as the homecoming royalty for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming activies over the weekend. FRENCH, daughter of Bob and Sandy FRENCH of Mount Ayr, was crowed at halftime ceremonies at the football game Friday night, while ALLEN, son of John and Cindy ALLEN of Tingley, was crowned at Thursday evening ceremonies.

The prince and princess for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming parade were Levi MARTIN, son of Lee and Heather MARTIN of Mount Ayr, and Madison HOSFIELD, daughter of Randy and Stephanie HOSFIELD of Diagonal. The parade marshals were Mary Ellen and Carroll TAYLOR. Carroll TAYLOR retired this past year as high school principal of Mount Ayr Community high school.

The Mount Ayr Medical Clinic is in the process of moving from its location on Fillmore Street on the square to the new building adjacent ot the Ringgold County Hospital.

A bank which serves Mount Ayr and Diagonal will be undergoing another name change by April 2001, it was announce this week. Firstar Corporation announced an agreement to merge with U.S. Bancorp through an exchange of shares valued at $21.1 billion in the first quarter of 2001. There will be 2,200 branches of the bank in 24 midwestern and western states.

Dustin EIGHMY placed third overall in the Pride of Iowa conferrence cross-country meet held in Bedford Monday. The Raiders placed thrid as a team, one point behind Corning.

After more than 45 years in the car repair business and 20 years in his own shop, Bob SICKELS is retiring (more or less) to a life of leisure. SICKELS Automotive is still going strong. Mike SICKELS has taken over the family business and, along with transmission specialist Tim BURTON, will continue to serve your automotive needs.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new Pamida Store downtown Mount Ayr at their grand opening Thursday, Oct. 5. Pamida opened their doors Thursday, Sept. 28.
