Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

"Blazing a Trail of Raider Tradition" is the theme for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming activities under way this week. There are 10 candidates vying for the king and queen positions. They include April PERRIGO, daughter of Tim and Bev PERRIGO of Omaha, NE and Fran and Roland JACKSON of Mount Ayr; Courtney CANNON, daughter of Gregg and Debbie CANNON of Mount Ayr; Amanda JACKSON, daughter of Curt and Teresa JACKSON of Redding; Shannon HARTMAN, daughter of Neil and Lana HARTMAN of Mount Ayr and Suzi HARTMAN of Texas, and Kim LARSEN, daughter of Ray Dean and Karen LARSEN of Clearfield. King candidates are Aaron ROBERTS, son of Bill and Kim ROBERTS of Ellston; Ryan ROE, son of Steve and Nancy ROE of Mount Ayr; T. J. REDDING, son of Pam NICHOLS and Tom REDDING of Grand River; Nick JOHNSON, son of Lowell and Deanne JOHNSON of Mount Ayr, and Austin ADAMS, son of Darrell and Brenda ADAMS of Kellerton.

A worker constructing a new cell telephone tower just southwest of Mount Ayr was killed in an accident Tuesday morning. At approximately 10:15 a.m., emergency personnel were called to the scene just south of the intersection of Highway 2and 169 west of Mount Ayr. Chad GAUDIG, 25, a worker for Sioux Falls Tower Company of Sioux Falls, SD, fell to his death in the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

How best to use a National Trustfor Historic Preservation grant, established by the granddaughter of a former doctor here, is being discussed after a meeting Monday where information on the grant was presented to representatives of several Mount Ayr groups. Dr. Helen L. LUYBEN of New York City has made a gift to the National Trust to establish the Dr. Frank Henry LANDES Preservation Fund, which will be managed by the National Trust's midwest office. Mr. LANDES practiced medicine in Benton and Mount Ayr in the early part of the century, the reason that the grant has been focused on efforts to renew the square in Mount Ayr.
