The Milton HENDERSONS will open their new home at 102 Sunset Lane to the public on Sunday, November 12. Friends of the family are invited to inspect their Gold Medallion (all-electric) home between the hours of one and four o’clock. The original ideas for Mount Ayr's most recently completed home were taken from the American Home magazine and plans were drawn by D. E. HUFFMAN of Clearfield.

William E. JOHNSTON of Bedford and former treasurer of Taylor county, has accepted a position as an Iowa state sales tax inspector, which duties he assumed November 1. Mr. JOHNSTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. [Horace A. & Martha (YOUNG)] JOHNSTON, and Mrs. JOHNSTON, adaughter of Mrs. O. Z. JONES, all of Mount Ayr, will continue to reside in Bedford.

Jeani BASTOW, Ringgold county's entry in the Farm Bureau's RAVE (Rural Amateur Variety Entertainment) program held Saturday in Red Oak was a district winner. With an exhibition of baton twirling, Jeani won the right to compete in the state RAVE contest to the be held November 14 in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines in conjunction with the annual convention of the Iowa Farm Bureau. Bill RILEY of KRNT-TV will serve as master of ceremonies. For the second successive year, Ringgold county has had a district winner. Last year, the TAYLOR Sisters -- Roma Jean, Twyla and Dixie -- of Diagonal, won the district contest and later appeared in state competition. Jeani is the 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles BASTOW of Poe township.

Richard (Dick) BOLTON of this city has been appointed to the national counter-subversive activities committee of the American Legion fora one-year term.

Mary Sue BASTOW and Lyle FARIS of Mount Ayr are the Ringgold county 4-H club members to be honored on the KSIB 4-H Record Book Award Program scheduled for November 11 over KSIB in Creston. Mary Sue, county girls vice president, and Lyle, county boys president, were selected for this recognition because of their outstanding 1960-61 4-H record books. Mary Sue, a member of the Liberty Belles 4-H Club, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert BASTOW and Lyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur FARIS, is a member of the Junior Farmers 4-H Club.

Mount Ayr voters selected a new mayor, one new councilman and re-elected four councilmen in Tuesday's biennial election. J. L. SCARDEIN, a retired farmer, won over J. M. TURNER, incumbent, for mayor, by a vote of 235 to 189. Harold DAVIS, L. W. (Joe) GROSS, Charles HARVEY and James MAHAN were re-elected councilmen, and Doyle H. SCOTT edged out C. E. HOLLOPETER as the fifth councilman by five votes.

Ralph BRAMMER was re-elected to represent Rice township as a member of the Ringgold County Agricultural Extension Council at a meeting held November 2 at Delphos. H. K. LORIMOR was re-elected from Liberty township at a meeting held Monday night at Wishard Chapel and Mrs. Clarence WILSON of Hatfield, MO was elected the same night to succeed Mrs. Laurance BISHOP from Lotts Creek township.

Mrs. Jack ELLIOTT of Benton was in September appointed by Governor Norman A. ERBE as a member of a governor's committee on Children and Youth.
