H. C. BEARD, of this city, whose first term as member of the State Highway Commission will expire July 1, has been reappointed by Governor Clarke for a four-year term.

The new executive committee of the Mount Ayr Lecture Course Association met in the home of Mrs. Martha TIMBY and elected the following officers: Chairman, Mrs. Martha TIMBY; secretary, Mrs. Howard TEDFORD; and treasurer, Jennie McMASTER. Other members of the executive committee are Mrs. R. C. SMITH, Mrs. Sam SPURRIER, Mrs. Ira A. MERRITT, Mrs. H. C. BEARD, Mrs. D. R. DUDLEY and Mrs. O. J. FRY.

H. S. KIDNEY and children Lucy, Dwight, Earl, Geoge and Kermit, went yesterday to Kellerton where they will spend two weeks visiting his daughter, Mrs. Fred MILLSAP, before going to Minnesota where they will make their home.

There was no excitement over the school election held in Mount Ayr yesterday. Two members of the board, George S. ALLYN and John E. SCOTT, who have proved by long years of service that they are worthy, were candidates for re-election and without opposition. Forty votes were cast. Mr. ALLYN and H. H. WILSON served as judges and J. N. LINEBURG as clerk of the election.

Mr. and Mrs. G. R. COLE and children, Vivian and Lavaun, left yesterday evening for Bridgewater, where they will maketheir home, Mr. COLE having accepted a position as clerk in a mercantile store. He formerly managed a store at Benton and had recently assisted his father, W. S. COLE, in the store at Watterson.

DIAGONAL - Directors elected for three-year terms at the school election held Monday were Dr. L. F. TALLEY and P. H. BAILEY. Other candidates were Asa BAILEY and W. H. GOODALE.

KELLERTON - N. B. ROBBINS has sold his garage to the Iowa Machine Company, of Des Moines, and the garage will go under that name. Mr. ROBBINS will remain as manager.

T. J. MILLER and I. J. DALBEY were elected school directors again at the school election held Monday. Cyrus JACKSON and A. H. BEEDE were defeated.

BIRTHS

  • Kellerton - Mr. and Mrs. Lewis SWANK are the parents of a little son, born to them on March 4.
  • A baby daughter was born March 11, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank HARDEN, of east Mount Ayr.
