Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Potential candidates for the Ringgold County Hospital board of trustees have until Thursday, September 13, to file nomination papers for two positions on the board which will be vacant this year. The terms of Dean JACKSON of Kellerton and Clifford FORCE of Mount Ayr will expire this year, and both board members have indicated that they do not plan to run again.

Another successful Ringgold County Fair drew to a close last week, showing another increase in the number of exhibits entered in the various classes and some of the largest arena crowds in eight years. Some of the winners included Bobbi HUNT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank HUNT of Diagonal, showing the top market beef entry, a 1,338 pound Chiania-cross steer. Scott POLLOCK, son of Mr. and Mrs. James POLLOCK of Mount Ayr, showed the champion goat. Two of the breed winners in the dairy show were the champion Holstein, shown by Eric DRAKE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard DRAKE of rural Mount Ayr, and the champion Brown Swiss heifer shown by Kelly HENSLEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond HENSLEY of Mount Ayr.

Among top placers in the livestock judging at the Ringgold County Fair were Kelly RICHARDS, Cliff BUELL, Kris RICHARDS, Eddie McCREARY, Brian COOK, and top individual winner, Dustin BROWN. The Junior Farmers 4-H club had the top judging team.

Showing the champion pen of three in the swine show was Jody SHIELDS, who showed with her twin sister, Jenny SHIELDS. Jody also showed the reserve champion market hog for the show. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry SHIELDS of Mount Ayr.

Supreme champion in the dairy class at the Ringgold County Fair was shown by Marcy MILLER of Mount Ayr with her eight-month old Guernsey dairy heifer. Todd CARLSON of Mount Ayr had the champion commercial gilt.

Mount Ayr community high school cheerleaders will perform at the Iowa State Fair Saturday, August 18. Cheerleaders are Joni YEAROUS, Kathy ROTERT, Donna POORE, Tammy CANNON, Shellie WELCH and Joan WALTERS.
