RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, May 08, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The Mount Ayr American Legion Post No 172 has selected as their representatives to Boys State -- John REYNOLDS and Kevin ANDREWS, both juniors at Mount Ayr Community. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Norman REYNOLDS and Mr. and Kenneth ANDREWS of Mount Ayr.

A break-in where a quantity of coins and other items were stolen was reported by the Ringgold County Sheriff's office this week. Sometime between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, someone broke into the Burl MOBLEY home, rural Benton, and stole a large number of silver dollars, silver half-dollars and Indian head pennies. Also taken were a Rogers Bros. silverware setting for 12, a rifle, necklace, razor and wrist watches, according to the department. The MOBLEY home is along Highway 2.

Jean IRVING, a junior from Munt Ayr attending Simpson college in Indianola, established two new school records in a women's track invitational meet held the end of April. Jean long jumped 17 feet two and one-fourth inches to win that event.

The Mount Ayr Princess Theatre is under new ownership effective May 1. Tom GREENE of Mount Ayr purchased the theater from David T. DALRYMPLE effective that day. DALRYMPLE, an Air Force officer, had purchased the theater from Will EDDY in 1977, after the business had been in the EDDY family since 1931. DALRYMPLE had planned to retire from the service and move to Mount Ayr in the future but said his plans had changed and that he was scheduled for more overseas duty, partly because of the recent world events.
