Another successful fair drew to a close last week with increases in the number of exhibits entered in various classes and record-breaking crowds Sunday and Tuesday evenings. Some of the winners in the judging Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday last week include Marcia STAMPER, daughter of Doyle and Louise STAMPER of Mount Ayr, who shoed the top market beef steer, a 1,187 pound Chianina cross steer; Scott POLLOCK, son of Mr. and Mrs. James POLLOCK of Mount Ayr, who showed the champion goat; and Marcy MILLER, daughter of Keith and Marshia MILLER of Mount Ayr, who showed the supreme champion dairy heifer, a Guernsey.

More top livestock winners from the county fair included Matt DAUGHTON, son of Bill and Nancy DAUGHTON of Kellerton, who showed his champion commercial gilt of the swine show; and Kris REYNOLDS, daughter of Connie and Doyle RICHARDS of Tingley, who showed her rate of gain champion.

Arlene SOBOTKA was elected president of the Diagonal Printing Museum board at the July 13 annual meeting of board members held at Diagonal. Other officers elected included vice-president, Jan JOHNSTON; treasurer, Donna WATSON; secretary Fran RUBY; and publicity David PUGH.

An exchange student from Granada, Spain, 16-year-old Francisco Garcia PALMA, arrived Monday, August 5, for a one- month stay in the home of Rev. Merlin and Margaret WILKINS of rural Tingley.

At a recent reunion of World War II Army buddies in Mount Ayr were Clare JOHNSON, Steve HOWARD, Jim SCHULKINS, Merlin TOEDER, Leland ROGERS, John WENASS, and Milosh KABIEL.

  • August 3, a son, to Mr. and Mrs. Scott MILLER, Blockton
  • August 5, a son, to Melissa CLYMER, Tingley
