RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 7, 1961

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Kellerton's new, modern post office was dedicated Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large and appreciative audience.

Participating Legionnaires included commander Chet MUNYON, Sam MERRILL, J. K. CLOUGH, Pete POWERS, sergeant-at-arms Dean JACKSON, Kenneth MICHAEL and Russell NORRIS.

Five persons won prizes offered Saturday on the occasion of the opening of the new Norge coin-operated laundromat in Kellerton. Many visitors inspected the new building and equipment, which includes 20 washers and six dryers. The business is owned and operated by the THRELKELDS of Chariton.

The Iowa State Highway Commission has set Thursday, Dec. 7, 1961, as the date for a public hearing on the proposed improvement of Iowa 294 from Iowa 2 to Grand River.

Fire of unknown origin destroyed a barn and two small buildings on the Larry RYAN property in Tingley yesterday morning about 11:30 a.m. The Mount Ayr Fire Department joined firemen in Tingley in preventing the flames from spreading to the house and other nearby property.

What is known as the WILEY 258-acre farm, six and one-half miles south of Ellston, was sold November 27 at public auction to Jim JONES of Kellerton. Possession will be given March 1, 1962. The sale was conducted by the Carl G. RIGGS Land Auction Company of Tingley. Dennis OWENS served as auctioneer and Grant L. HAYES was the attorney.
