RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 05, 1987

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

It rained on the Tingley Halloween Fun Night parade Saturday but that has become part of the tradition for the annual event which was celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The downpour didn't slow down the parade and unseasonably warm temperatures made the drenching bearable for the many participants who turned out for the celebration.

Coming to Thursday night's special meeting with the Ringgold County Hospital board and administrative staff in a self-claimed "adversary" position, Harold Hughes appeared to leave the some two-hourlong session convinced that the board and he and his staff could work together for the common good. Hughes had requested the meeting October 29 to "lay on the table" six concerns he and his staff members -- Matt DELUHERY, clinical supervisor, and JoAnn BUCKNER, secretary/bookkeeper -- had about what was considered "a breakdown in communication" between the Hughes Center and the hospital.

It started as a vision of what was needed and what could be and today is a 4,600 square foot, brick building that houses eight handicapped adult residents and houseparents in west Mount Ayr just north of Judge Lewis Park. The Ringgold County Group Home was completed in October. White Construction Company of Maysville, MO began work April 9, 1987. Their final construction bid for the building was for $209,911. Open house for the new Ringgold County Group Home, which is the result of the cooperation of many county organizations, is planned forSunday, Nov. 8. There will be tours of the facility offered and refreshments served.

Jack GROSS, a former Mount Ayr resident and the son of Joe and Helen GROSS, has begun work as claims adjustor for Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance, headquartering in Des Moines. He has been hired to adjust claims in south central Iowa, including Ringgold county.
