Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

A total of 807 farmers in Ringgold county has reported completion in 1961 of agricultural conservation work under the cost-sharing government program administered by the county ASCS office, it was reported this week by the Ringgold county ASC committee. The number of farms which participated in the 1961 conservation program represented 49 percent of the total number of farms in the county and contained 55 percent of the county's farmland.

Friends and neighbors of Claude STEPHENSON gathered Monday and Tuesday of last week at his farm east of Ellston and cut, raked and baled 25 acres of hay. Mr. STEPHENSON suffered a heart attack on June 23 while mowing hay and was taken to Greater Community Hospital in Creston. He has returned to his home. Those who ssisted were Lee JACKSON, Lowell SCHAEFER, Jerry SCHAEFER, Linford MASON, Ralph MASON, Quentin ANDERSON, Raymond GREEN, Roger GROSE, Duane GROSE, Lyle HOSFIELD, Danny HOSFIELD, David JENNINGS, Paul BRAND, Dale WHITSON, Keith WHITSON, Raymond WHITSON, Dean WHITSON, Earnest BUELL, Bill GEPNER and Francis BOURNE.

The Honorable Charles J. LEWIS of Mount Ayr, judge of the third judicial district, has offered $10,000 for the purchase of land for the establishment of a city park in southwest Mount Ayr. The offer was made to the swimming pool committee, which, in recent weeks, has been active in promoting a proposed pool for Mount Ayr and Ringgold county. An option already has been exercised for the purchase of 20 acres from Mrs. S. C. STANLEY. The land lies well -- an ideal location for a pool and park development area. The park entrance would be adjacent to Ringgold Street, just one block west of Dunning Avenue.
