U.S. Representative Dick GEPHARDT from Missouri visited with people from Ringgold county at Small Corral Tuesday morning. GEPHARDT is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States and is the second potential presidential candidate to visit Mount Ayr this year.

A brand new, June 1987, crafts catalog is off the press. The 16-page brochure catalogs Ringgold county craft items and their producers -- everything from knitting and crochet to information about organic gardening. The catalog was compiled by Mary PEIFER and illustrated by Becky ANDREWS of Mount Ayr.

Eduardo AFINI, a Brazilian student who is going to college at Hampton College in Virginia, where he played on the second place NCAA Division II tennis team in the country, is visiting Fred BRYAN in Mount Ayr. The two met when they served on the staff of a summer camp in Maine two years ago.

A Mount Ayr Community elementary student brought home four medals from the state Special Olympics track meet in Ames last week. Five students had qualified for the state meet at the area meet in Creston earlier. Students and their placings included Scott FARRELL, silver medal, 50 meter run; John MEDLEY, gold medal, standing long jump; Chris MEDLEY, fifth place, softball throw; Lance ENGLAND, bronze medal, softball throw, and Mike KING, gold medal, 25 meter walk.

Senior students at Mount Ayr Community high school who participated in a sport for all four years were honored with plaques at the annual athletic banquet. Students honored included Kevin JACKSON, Kevin O'MAILIA, Max TRIGGS, Vic LILIENTHAL, Steve FELL, David GREENE, Kelly HENSLEY, Kim WILLIS, Angie SMITH, Melanie MURPHY, Shelly TAYLOR, LeAnne O'MAILIA, Karla KINTON, Becky HALEY and Melanie TRULLINGER.

Three graduates of Ringgold county high schools were recipients of the Frank HUNT Memorial 4-H scholarship. The recipients were Patty TAYLOR, daughter of Jack and Dixie TAYLOR of Diagonal; Kelly HENSLEY, daughter of Raymond and Judy HENSLEY of Mount Ayr, and Kris RICHARDS, daughter of Doyle and Connie RICHARDS of Tingley.

A new hospital administrator and a new ambulance are the latest additions at Ringgold County Hospital. Gordon WINKLER is the new hospital administrator. WINKLER has been working at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines before accepting the new post here. The new ambulance replaces the one destroyed in a traffic accident in Des Moines.
