At the first matinee given under the suspices of the Mount Ayr Merchants' Matinee Club at the Star Theatre on Saturday afternoon, the $5 prize given by Mr. TODD to the person purchasing the largest bill of goods of club members during the day was won by Fred BARKER, who bought $50 worth of lumber from the Hawkeye Lumber Company. The second prize of $3, to the person coming the farthest distance, went to S. E. BEATTY, of Lincoln township, who lives 17 1/2 miles from Mount Ayr.

An unusually large freight business has been done in the last month at the local depot. There have been 192 cars of freight shipped into Mount Ayr in the last 31 days, while a good average for the work done here is about 40 cars.

The Mount Ayr Roller Rink is offering a prize of $1 to the gentleman who shows himself most incapable of handling roller skates at the rink on November 4.

T. L. KIER packaged the major part of his stock of notions and shipped them Wednesday to Gentry, MO, his former home. The news depot and cigar and candy stock were sold to E. S. LONG, waterworks superintendent, who will continue the business at the old stand.

KELLERTON - Anna ROBINSON, of Beaconsfield, has accepted the position of bookkeeper at the Kellerton State Bank. She replaces Amy MILLER, who resigned because of poor health.

Beatrice ERVIN left Wednesday for Harris, MO, where she will stay with her brother, and where she has a music class organized.

Fern BAYLESS left Thursday for Columbus, MT, where she will teach history and domestic science at the high school.

R. M. BOWLBY, proprietor of the Grand, reports Thursday was one of his best days since being in the hotel business. One hundred and five were fed at noon.

KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Forrest SMITH are rejoicing over the arrival of a six pound daughter, born to them on November 1.

KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. John GIBSON are the proud parents of a little son, born November 3.

KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Leon SCHAEFER are the proud parents of a little daughter, born to them October 31. The little one has been christened Cora May.
