The names of 69 students appeared on the second semester honor roll of the Mount Ayr Community high school. The list included three straight A students, eight with A- averages and 58 B- average students. Straight A students were John PETERSEN, senior, and Donna WALTERS and Gerald WAUGH, sophomores. Students with A- averages were Mary BLACK and Lucille FARIS, seniors; Jim DENHART, Kathryn McCREARY and Paul RUCKMAN, juniors; and Carol CHICKEN, Jane KINNE and Jeanne MARLER, sophomores.

The Grand River Limestone Co. has been sold to Grand River Quarries, Inc., a division of E. I. Sargent Quarries, Inc. of Des Moines. Possession was given May 26. The sale is announced by S. B. STUCK, president; Ninabel STUCK, secretary and treasurer, and Irene IRELAN, vice-president of the Grand River Limestone Co. Communities and farmers in Clarke, Decatur, Ringgold, Taylor and Union counties have been well served by the Grand River Limestone Co. for nearly 18 years.

Karen FLOHRA, a May graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, has been contracted by the board of education to teach high school English, speech and dramatics in the Mount Ayr Community school district. A 1957 graduate of the Ellston high school, Miss FLOHRA is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald FLOHRA of Murray, former residents of the Ellston vicinity.

Bernard SOBOTKA of Diagonal assumed his duties Monday as ASC office manager in Mount Ayr. Bernard, son of Andrew SOBOTKA, graduated from the Diagonal high school and attended Iowa State College for two years. He has served on the Jefferson township committee for several years, in which township he is a farmer.

Mrs. S. C. RICE, city librarian, was appointed secretary of the ninth district of the Iowa Library Association during a district meeting held recently in Red Oak.

Approximately $125 in cash was stolen Friday night or Saturday morning from the Mount Ayr Produce Company, owned and operated by Billie FINCH.

Suzanne TODD and Chloris KING are among the approximately 450 senior and graduate students scheduled to receive bachelor and master degrees from Drake University, Des Moines, at the 80th annual spring commencement. Miss TODD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. TODD of Mount Ayr, is a candidate for the bachelor of fine arts in the College of Fine arts. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. KING of Mount Ayr, Miss KING is a candidate for the bachelor of music education degree in the College of Fine Arts.

Herman FENNEMA, John Deere implement dealer in Mount Ayr for 15 years, has been appointed district fieldman for the state committee of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation, U.S. Departmentof Agriculture. He will assume his duties immediately after attending aschool of instruction in Des Moines. He will serve county ASC offices in 14 counties in southwestern Iowa.

Raymond BROOKS of Kellerton has purchased the GALBRAITH feed store in Kellerton. He will continue the Swift feed and mineral line along with Pioneer seed corn. Other services will include insecticides, sprays, coal, medications, some hardware and electrical supplies, grit, oyster shell and salt.

The Kellerton Mutual Central Telephone company was sold Thursday to the Iowa State Telephone Corporation for $14,000. The sale was authorized by shareholders of the Kellerton company by a vote of 100 to 36 at the close of a special meeting Thursday in Kellerton.
