WWII SAILORS FROM DELPHOS, IOWA

Left to Right: Seaman 2C Earnest "Sherman" LIVESAY, Flight Officer Leo V. HERROLD, Machinist's Mate 1C Vernon Wayne KASTER

Machinist's Mate 1C Vernon Wayne KASTER, son of Mrs. Ida KASTER of Mount Ayr, Iowa, served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. Machinist's Mate 1C KASTER was K.I.A. Sunday, January 30, 1944, and was memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery, Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippines. Machinist's Mate 1C KASTER was awarded the Purple Heart.

Flight Officer Leo V. HERROLD, born January 28, 1919, served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force. FLO HERROLD died during a plane crash near Dododura, New Guinea in the South Pacific on January 18, 1943, and was interred at Plot D, 264, Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California. A memorial stone was placed at Centenary Cemetery near Knowlton, Ringgold County, Iowa.

Seaman 2C Earnest Sherman LIVESAY, son of Mrs. Margaret Ellen LIVESAY of Redding, Iowa, served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. Seaman 2C LIVESAY was K.I.A.
