EPHRAIM H. LONGACRE

Ephraim H[ubble]. LONGACRE, section 4, Riley Township, was born in Monroe County, Ohio, July 11, 1851, a son of Daniel and Octavia LONGACRE. In 1866 his parents moved to Iowa and located on section 3, Riley Township, Ringgold County, on the farm now owned by M. BENEDICT. In 1874 they moved to Decatur County, and settled near Van Wert, where the father died in 1882, and the mother still lives. Their family consisted of four children - Fanny [1850-1868], deceased; Ephraim H.; Mrs. Jane A. COOK [1858-?]; and Mrs. Susan Elvira BENEDICT [1860-1894] [Family records list two other siblings, Thomas, born in 1849, and Ezra, born in 1856, probably died in either infancy or early childhood].

Ephraim H. LONGACRE left the home roof when nineteen years of age, and has since been acting for himself and adding to his material prosperity year by year. He is a young man of good habits and fine business ability and is considered one of Riley Township's most substantial citizens. He owns 420 ares of valuable land, all but twenty acres being under cultivation. His homestead is one of the best in Ringgold County, and contains eighty acres of choice land.

Mr. LONGACRE was married April 3, 1876, [in Ringgold County, Iowa] to Miss A. S. FOSTER (sic, should be America Zerelda FOSTER), who was born in 1856, a daughter of Andrew FOSTER. They have six children - Merritt, Grace, Daniel W., Walter, Eveline and Ray.

In politics Mr. LONGACRE affiliates with the Republican party.

NOTE: Ephraim's father Daniel Webster LONGACRE was born September 30, 1814, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, and died on at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 22 days on July 22, 1882, Kellerton, Iowa. Ephram's mother, Daniel's second wife Octavia (WATKINS) LONGACRE was born February 1, 1820, Troy, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Ephraim WALKINS (1797, CT - 1882, OH) and Fanny B. (PALMER) WATKINS (1794, VT - 1878, OH). Octavia died in 1893 near Kellerton, Iowa. Ephraim Hubble LONGACRE died February 9 1948, Merced, Merced County, California. Ephraim's wife America "Zerelda" (FOSTER) LONGACRE was born September 1, 1856, Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa and died April 6, 1942, Kellerton, Iowa. The LONGACRES were interred at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Ringgold COunty, Iowa.

According to family records, Ephriam and Zerelda were the parents of nine children:

  married 10 Jun 1915, Maude MOSIER, born circa 1884, Kellerton IA
  Children: Ida and Daniel LONGACRE

Walter A. LONGACRE, born 22 Oct 1881, Kellerton IA; died 28 Spe 1936, Brush, Morgan Co. CO

  Charlene and Walter interred Sandy Cemetery, Salt Lake Co. UT
  Charlene and Walter were the parents of eight children.
