from Biography & Historical Record of Ringgold County, Iowa

Lewis Publishing Company of Chicago, 1887, p. 253

W. L. GLEASON, M.D.

W. L. GLEASON, physician and surgeon, Kellerton, Iowa, is a native of Illinois, born September 27, 1859, a son of D. R. and Margaret (LEGG) GLEASON, the former a native of Vermont, and the latter of Indiana. He war reared in his native State, receiving a good education, and at the age of twenty-one years began the study of medicine under the direction of Dr. J. H. WHITE, of Mount Ayr, Iowa. In the winter of 1882-'3 he attended the Eclectic Medical College, at Cincinnati, Ohio, and in the winter of 1883-'4 the medical department of Drake's University, at Des Moines, Iowa, from which he graduated January 24, 1884, receiving his diploma June 12 of the same year. In the spring of 1884 he located at Kellerton, and from that time his practice steadily increased, until it became large and lucrative. In the fall of 1886 he went to Chicago, Illinois, and during the winter of 1886-'7 attended lectures at the Bennett Medical College. He is recognized as one of the promising young physicians of Ringgold County, and already holds a high position in the estimation of his brother practitioners. He is ambitious, and devotes his entire time to his profession, that he may keep informed on all subjects of benefit to him in his practice. His faithful attendance on all cases entrusted to his care, and his cheerful, pleasant manner in the sickroom make him a welcom visitor to all needing his services. He is a young man of pleasing address, and his genial manners make him popular with the young people, and their social circle is incomplete when his duties call him elsewhere.

NOTE: D. R. GLEASON died at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 9 days on February 26, 1901. Margaret (LEGG) GLEASON died at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 17 days. D. R. and Margaret were interred at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa. Also interred at Benton Cemetery is Frank E. GLEASON (1874-1959) and his wife Susan S. GLEASON (1873-1936).
