J[ohn]. B. FISHER resides on section 1, Clinton Township, and is one of the leading citizens of Ringgold County. He
was born in Mercer County, Kentucky, July 15, 1831, the son of James and Elizabeth (BRISCO) FISHER, natives also of
Kentucky. J. B. was the third of a family of seven children. When he was two years old his parents removed to Vermillion
County, Indiana, and were among the pioneers of that county. His early life was spent at farm work and in attending the
common schools.At the age of twenty-two he was married to Miss Mary Ann WILKINSON, a native of Vermillion County, and
daughter of Joseph and Sarah (TIPTON) WILKINSON. In 1855 he removed to Marion County, Iowa, where he resided two years,
improving a piece of wild land. He then removed to Worth County, Missouri, where he improved a farm and resided until
1864, then came to his present farm in Clinton Township, which was then partly improved. Thirty acres were in cultivation
and a small house had been built. he has added to the improvements until the FISHER farm is known as one of the best
farms in the township. He has 330 acres, a good story-and-a-half house, modern style, surrounded with shade trees, out-buildings
for stock, and a fine orchard. A wind-mill furnishes the stock with pure water, and he has every convenience for
stock-raising and feeding. Mr. and Mrs. FISHER have three children - James R., who resides in Benton Township; Sarah,
now Mrs. J. C. ABARR, residing in Nebraska, and Geoge, who resides at home. Mr. FISHER is a member of the Masonic
order, Mt. Ayr Lodge, No. 179, and in politics is a Democrat. Postoffice, Redding.
NOTE: John B. FISHER died on July 5, 1922,
after breaking a hip. Mary Ann (WILKINSON) FISHER was born August 27, Vermilliion County, Indiana, and died
October 2, 1907. John and Mary Ann were interred at Redding Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
1) James R. FISHER was born in Vermillion
County, Illinois, on November 30, 1853, and died October 4, 1933, at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. James' wife Sarah
Virginia SHAMBAUGH was born in 1859, and died in 1944. James and Sarah were interred in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount
Ayr, Iowa. Their son, William "Guyer" FISHER, was born in 1884, and died in 1964, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount
Ayr, Iowa. Their other son
Orr Cleveland Fisher was the artist who painted the WPA mural hanging in the lobby of Mount Ayr's Post Office.
2) Sarah E. (FISHER) ABARR was born in Monroe County, Iowa, June 2, 1856, and died at the age of 52 years on September
18, 1908. John Carter ABARR was born September 12, 1845, Whiteside County, Illinois, the son of Joseph Wilson ABARR
(1816-1904) and Rebecca (SMITH) ABARR (1827-1865). John died at the age of 90 years on June 19, 1936. Sarah and John were interred at
Fairview Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. John served as a Private with Company I of the 5th Missouri Cavalry Regiment
during the Civil War. He was a member of G.A.R. Post 51. John and Sarah were the parents of two daughters:
1) Alice ABARR, born 14 Dec 1879, Redding IA; died 1880, Redding IA
2) Mary (ABARR) HERREN, born 15 Sep 1884, Redding IA; died 1971
3) George W. FISHER was born in 1861, and died in 1934, with interment at Redding Cemetery, Ringgold
County, Iowa.
