ALSON W. DUNSMOOR

ALSON W. DUNSMOOR, deceased, a son of Horace and Jane (BISHOP) DUNSMOOR was born in Washngton County, Ohio, September 8, 1830. He was reared a in his native county, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage in 1855 to Miss Elizabeth BRECKENRIDGE, a native of Canada, and a daughter of John and Margaret BRECKENRIDGE of Washington County, Ohio.

After his marriage Mr. DUNSMOOR settled on a farm in Washington County, where he followed farming till coming to Ringgold County, Iowa, inthe fall of 1873, when he located on a farm on section 18, Tingley Township, which is still occupied by his widow and son. He was prosperous in his agricultural pursuits, and from a small beginning became one of the well-to-do citizens of his township, leaving at his death a fine farm, containing 320 acres, all well improved and under good cultivation.

He was sick with pneumonia about four months before his death, which occurred May 16, 1836. He left a wife, a daughter and two sons to mourn his loss - Margaret J., wife of John S. GILES; John H., managing the home farm; and Alvadore, living in Tingley Township. One daughter, Elvia, died May 5, 1885, aged twenty years.

In his poltical views Mr. DUNSMOOR was a staunch Republican, quiet, unassuming, industrious, and strictly honorable in all his dealings, he gained the confidence of all with whom he had business or social intercourse, and at his death left a host of friends to mourn his loss.

NOTE: Horace DUNSMOOR was born October 11, 1799, in Morgan County, Ohio. He married Jane BISHOP who was a neighbor's daughter. They were the parents of eleven children, Alson being the 7th child. Horace died in 1878, a few years after Jane's death.

Alson W. DUNSMOOR died at the age of 55 on May 16, 1886. Elizabeth (BRECKENRIDGE) was born in Canada, and died at the age of 78 on September 7, 1912. Alson and Elizabeth were interred at Eugene Cemetery in Jefferson Township of Ringgold County, Iowa. Elvira DUNSMOOR died at the age of 20 years, 10 months and 25 days on May 5, 1885 with interment at Eugene Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
