He is buried at Fort Collins Grandview Cemetery along with his wife Cordelia. The following is a story provided by his grand-nephew Chuck Tutt: "An interesting story George told was that when the Indian's were beaten they were moved west with a group of Cavalry, including George, trailing behind them. The small group of cavalry was to track the Indian movements and were not there to push, fight or confront the indians. One day, near nightfall the Cavalry troopers were coming to a river that they thought the Indian's had already crossed. They were tired and whipped their horses the last little way over a hill to the river bank and found themselves right in the middle of the Indians. The Indians had not crossed the river. The troopers turned their horses around spured and whipped them riding at a dead run until well after dark. Then they sat their horses in the dark under some trees, peering out to see if any Indians were following. They were scared to death that they would all be killed."
