Minnie (Kunze) Harm (1898 - 1968)

Minnie Marie Kunze, daughter of William Kunze and Marie (Rodewald) Kunze, was born near Charter Oak, on Sept. 22, 1898. In early infancy she was baptized and later confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

She was married to William Harm on Sept. 17, 1916, a union to which four children were born. They lived on the farm in Goodrich Township after their marriage until retiring to Denison in January, 1946. Mr. Harm preceded her in death in 1962.

Mrs. Harm had been in poor health since the autumn of 1967 and was hospitalized at various times. She was taken again to the local hospital on May 2 and died on May 20.

Her funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on May 22 with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran Ladies Choir with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Interment was made in the Oakland Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Charles Harm, Eugene Harm, Roger Harm Darwin Harm, Irvin Harm, Jr., and Russell Harm.

Surviving her death are two sons Irwin of Schleswig and Wilbert of Denison; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Free Kunze of Charter and one sister, Mrs Anna McQuire of Charter Oak. Preceding her in death were a son Robert and a daughter Erma; two granddaughters, Carlan and Cheryloleen Harm; four brothers and one sister. She had been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1916 and was active in the Zion Ladies Aid.

Minnie (Boger) Petersen (1891 - 1965)

Mrs. Chris Petersen died at her home on First Avenue North on Feb. 25 at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Minnie Helen Boger was born Sept. 14, 1891 at Schleswig, the daughter of Fritz Boger and his wife Ida nee Schluter. She lived in Crawford County and on Jan. 29, 1913 was wed to Chris Peterson; a marriage to which five children were born. They farmed in Hanover and Goodrich Townships before coming to make their home in Denison in 1955. Mr. Petersen preceded her in death in August 1964.

Mrs. Peterson was a member, of the Lutheran church, having been baptized in infancy and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. At the time of her death she was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Denison and here her funeral service was held on Feb. 27 with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Selections were sung by the Lutheran Ladies Choir. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery with the following serving as bearers; Jerry Boger, Harold Eggert, George Gress, Jr. Herman Kahl Jr., Leroy Koch. Wilmer Wiese.

Survivors include three sons, August of Schleswig and Elmer and Louis of Denison and one daughter, Mrs. Ida Eggert, of Denison, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. Ella Schram and Mrs. Anna Koch of Denison, Mrs. Hilda Kahl of Westside, Mrs. Amanda Hintz of Mapleton and Mrs. Hattie Kahl of Buck Grove and one brother, William Boger of Charter Oak. Preceding her in death were her husband, one son, Merlin one brother, Herman Boger and one granddaughter, Donna Petersen.

Minnie (Lueck) Poleske (1876 - 1964 )

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Dorothea Poleske, 78, Manilla, was held on, Friday afternoon, May 15, at 2 p. m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, with Rev. C. W. Schmidt, of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison officiating. Interment was in Nishnabotna cemetery.

Daughter of Herman and Fredericka Dahl Lueck, she was born March 23, 1876 in Jackson County, Iowa. At the age of six, she came to Crawford County, near Dow City, where she attended rural schools.

On Feb. 4, 1902 she married Ernest Poleske, and they farmed in Nishnabotny Township until 1926, when they moved to Manilla. Mr. Poleske died in 1952. Since that time her daughter, Florence, lived in Manilla with her. Mrs. Poleske suffered a stroke and a broken hip on Friday, May 8, and was taken to Crawford County Memorial hospital in Denison, where she died on Tuesday evening, May 12.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She leaves the following children: Florence, at home; Mrs. William (Nellie) Ehlers, Denison; Sears Poleske, Westside; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brothers, William Lueck, Fred Lueck, Denison ; John Lueck, Gowrie, and a sister, Mrs. Albert (Lizzie) Poleske, Denison; also nieces and nephews.

Nora L. (Peters) Kroeger (1925 - 1984)

Nora Lee Kroeger, 58, of 727 17th Ave. North, No. 16, Longmont, Colorado, died Friday, March 30, 1984. She was born May 14, 1925, in Schleswig, Iowa, to Herbert F. and Mabel (Clark) Peters.

She was a graduate of Schleswig Community Schools and married Donald A. Kroeger on May 14, 1947. Nora Lee and Donald moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1974, where she worked as a florist for the last ten years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She is survived by her husband Donald of Longmont, Colorado; a son, Michael A. Kroeger of Clovis, New Mexico; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Nancy L.) Jors and Vanessa Duncan both of Denison, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 1984, at Lewellen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Van Kranenburgh of First Congregational Church officiated. Interment was in Foothills Gardens of Memory, Longmont, Colorado.

Norma J. (Oeser) Koch (1927 - 2004)

Norma Jean Koch was born February 1, 1927, the daughter of John and Lena Biehl Oeser. She died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, Monday, May 24, 2004 at the age of seventy-seven. Norma grew up on a farm near Westside and received her education in the Westside Community School where she graduated from high school.

On September 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leroy Koch, Jr., in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm near Westside and were blessed with the birth of five children. In 1990, the couple moved to Westside and retired from the farm a year later. Norma began working at the Diner at this time, and enjoyed socializing with friends while there.

She was a loving, caring, gracious wife, mother and grandmother with a devout and inspiring love for her Lord and Savior that is evidenced by the strength and faith she had as a member of the United Church in Westside. She was unselfish and considerate in every way, thinking of others before herself. She enjoyed the times she had with her family, cooking and helping them with their needs.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leroy; two sisters, Velma Craig and Lois Oeser; and one brother, Al Oeser. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ballantine of Vail; Gail Huisman and her husband, Bruce of Des Moines; Kathy Stadtlander and her husband, Darwin of Buffalo, Minnesota; two sons. Bob Koch and his wife, Mary of Des Moines; and Ron Koch and his wife, Robin of Hartselle, Alabama; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, LaVerne Burch of Van Nuys, California; Marian Hennings of Council Bluffs; two brothers, John "Jack" Oeser and his wife, Geri of Westside; Larry Oeser of Council Bluffs; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 ;00 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2004 at the United Church in Westside, Iowa. Pastor Virginia Stiles officiated the service and grave side rites held at the West-side Cemetery. Janine Kock provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "On Eagle's Wings" and "In the Garden". Those serving as pallbearers were Michael Hennings, Dennis Maasen, Jim Namanny, Gregg Oeser, Steven Koch and Rick Lenz. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building, served by the United Church Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Westside was in charge of arrangements.

Olga (Weller) Beermann (1893 - 1983)

Olga Beermann was born on a farm in Mills County, Iowa, April 10, 1893, the daughter of John and Emma Thies Weller. She was baptized in infancy and later was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. When Olga was a young girl the family moved to a farm in Washington Township in Crawford County where she, was raised. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home until her father's death when it was necessary for her to stay at home and help on the farm.

On March 1, 1916, Olga was united in marriage with Henry F. Beermann at her parent's home in Washington Township. To this union ten children were born, Walter, Edward, Alvin, Alma, Dorothy, Harold, Irene, Lorena, and twin daughters who died in infancy. They made their home on a farm in Nishnabotna township until 1927, when they moved to a farm in Washington Township. In 1949, they retired from the farm and moved to Denison.

Henry died Nov. 19, 1965,.and Olga continued to reside at their home in Denison until July of 1980 when she made her home with her daughter Alma for a year. On July 3, 1981, Olga moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and it was there she died, Nov. 26. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 90 years, 7 months and 16 days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin daughters who died in infancy, one son Alvin, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, George, Edward and Henry Weller, and four sisters, Johanna Nulle, Elfrieda Voege, Katherine Goettsch, and Margaret Brus.

She is survived by seven children, Walter Beermann of Denison, Edward Beermann of Denison, Alma, Mrs. Clarence Denker of Denison, Dorothy, Mrs. Lyle Christoffersen of Audubon, Harold Beerman of Defiance, Irene, Mrs. Gaylord Boech of Ida Grove, and Lorena, Mrs. Mervin Fink of Denison, 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Rieken of Westside, Minnie Brockman of Carroll, and Alvina, Mrs. Victor Kohlbeck of Fort Worth,Texas, one sister-in-law Mrs. Clara Weller of Ute and one brother-in-law Henry Brus of Manilla. Also surviving are many nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. November 29 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Jack D. Heck officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Henry Henningsen singing two selection, "Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages" and the congregation singing two hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" with Mrs Fred Rabe as organist. Pall bearers were her grandsons, Robert Beermann, Ronald Beermann, Dennis Denker, Larry Denker, Neal Christoffersen, Donald Beermann, Alan Boeck, Curtis Boeck, Gary Boeck, and Joel Fink. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery in Denison, The Pfannebecker-Maxwell funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Otto A. Harder (1899 - 1961)

Otto Harder died at the Sanitarium in Kearney, Neb., on March 13. He had been a patient at the institution for two weeks.

Otto August Julius Harder son of Adolph Harder and his wife Dorothea nee Linde was born in Nishnabotna Township, Crawford County, Ia., Oct. 2, 1899. He was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He was married to Viola Coburn in 1923 who survives his death along with the following children; Otto Jr. of Fairfield, Calif., Mrs. Betty Oswald of Lake View, Lyle of Grimes, Charles of McGregor, and Robert with the Air Force in Bermuda; 16 grandchildren, one brother, Rudolf of Denison and two sisters; Mrs. Meta Petersen of Denison and Mrs. Ella Fischer of Manning.

Funeral services were held at the Huebner Funeral home March 16. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were: Louis Beermann, Mike Gredel, Arnold Petersen, Earl Fischer, Edmund Haase and John Ruberg.

Palmer Peters (1916 - 1985)

Palmer Peters, 68, of Schleswig died Wednesday morning at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. Funeral services will be held on Friday (tomorrow) at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore will officiate at the services and graveside rites. Burial will be in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday (today) at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Survivors include his wife Verline of rural Schleswig; two sons, Gary of Schleswig and Ronald of Cleveland, Tenn. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Shawn, Heidi, Dirk and Erika; five brothers, Verdus of Schleswig, Logan of Knoxville, Julius Jr., of Sioux Falls, S.D., Gene of Des Moines and Richard of Schleswig; and one sister, Loa Lane (Mrs. Russell) Daly of Kansas City, Mo.

Peters was born Nov. 19, 1916, on a family farm near Schleswig, the son of Julius and Amanda Engelking Peters. He attended the rural schools and graduated from the Schleswig High School.

On July 3, 1939, he married the former Verline Mohr in Sioux City. They made their home in Galva where Peters was employed at a lumber yard. In 1941 they moved to California where Palmer worked in the defense plants. They returned to Iowa in 1950 to a farm west of Schleswig. In 1979, they retired from farming and moved into Schleswig.

Paula (Linke) Jess (1908 - 1999)

Paula Jess was born December 29, 1908, the daughter of William and Marie Christiansen Linke. She died at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa on Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at the age of ninety.

Paula was born in Pell Worm, Germany, where she was baptized in Christ. As a young child she immigrated to the United States with her parents, settling near Schleswig, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home.

On February 6, 1929, Paula was united in marriage to Harry Jess. The couple farmed near Battle Creek for one year and then moved to the Schleswig area, where they continued to farm. In 1968, the couple moved into Schleswig, where they made their home until August of 1996, when they entered the Long Term Care in Nevada. Paula was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and their Ladies Aid. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry on March 13, 1998, one grandson, Troy Myers, four sisters, Dora Christiansen, Wilhelmina Bliesman, Marie Baeth, Helga Bielenberg and five brothers, Friedrich, Carl, Max, Paul and Herman Linke in infancy.

Survivors include one son, Val Gene Jess and his wife, Brenda of New Sharon, Iowa; one daughter, Karen Twedt and her husband, Don of Radcliffe, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jerry Jess of Taintor, Iowa; Jeffery Jess and his wife, Joanne of Urbana, Iowa; Kristin Fendrick and her husband, Roger of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Brandon and Cole Jess of Urbana; two brothers-in-law, Harwin Jess and his wife, Dorothy of Denison; Hans Jess and his wife, Ruth of Schleswig; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 A.M., Thursday, June 24, 1999 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Bonard Christiansen, Freddie Friedrichsen, Richard Pickel, Roger Fendrick, Jeffery Jess and Jerry Jess.

Paul Block (1915 - 1981)

Paul Block was born on March 15, 1915, near Denison, Iowa, the son of Fritz and Emma Loewe Block. He died April 18, 1981 at the University of Neb. Medical Center, Omaha, Neb., at the age of 66. Paul spent his early years on a family farm. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.

On Feb. 3, 1939, Paul was united in marriage to Arlene Janssen at Buck Grove. They made their home on the farm where Paul was raised. Paul was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He has been a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Goldon K's.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by one granddaughter in infancy and one brother, Henry in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Denison, three daughters, Irma, Mrs. Orrin Plagmann of Harlan, Pauline, Mrs. Bryon Meeves of Denison and Linda, Mrs. Kenneth Werkmeister of Sac City. Also by seven grandchildren, one brother Meinhardt of Denison, two step-brothers, Vernon Beermann of Colorado and Carl Beermann of Denison and two step-sisters, Mrs. Leona Johnannsen of Minneapolis and Mrs. Frieda Sonichsen of Denison.

Funeral services were held April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at. the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Herschel Gabrielsen, Howard Holmes, Lester Anderson, Vernon Neumann, Robert Arnold and John Shields. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Paul E. Briggle Sr. (1905 - 1979)

Paul E. Briggle Sr. was born Nov. 6, 1905 at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of William and May Jones Briggle. He died Jan. 19, 1979 at St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, at the age of 73. Paul was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his formal education in the Lutheran school.

On May 20, 1937 Paul was united in marriage to Norma Rix at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. They made their home in Ricketts where he was employed in a service station. Later he owned and operated a produce and cream business in Ricketts. Paul served in the military during World War II, after his marriage. He was also an Elder in his church for three years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 1973, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include one son Paul Jr. of Ricketts, two grandchildren, one brother, Melvin of Des Moines and one sister, Mrs. Esther Kortman of Schleswig, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ricketts. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Hanover Township. The. Rev. Winterowd officiated at the services. Pallbearers included, Walter Kortman Jr., Gary Rix, Delbert Rix, Roger Rix, Edwin Hopp and Elmer Bohlmann. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak.

Paul F. Petersen (1887 - 1968)

Paul Frederick Petersen, the son of Peter Petersen and his wife Maria (Paulsen) Petersen, was born in Otter Greek Township, Crawford County, on June 12, 1887. He attended the elementary schools of the County.

He was married to Emma Heide on May 20, 1914, a union to which two children were born. After their marriage they farmed in Goodrich Township until retiring to live in Denison in 1950. Mr. Petersen had been in poor health the past year and was taken to reside at the Morningside Manor in Ida Grove in May. Here he passed away on October 7 at the age of eighty-one years, three months and twenty-seven days.

He is survived by his widow; Emma, son, Marvine, Denison and one daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Esther) Grill of Denison; by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Three sisters and a granddaughter preceded him in death.

The funeral service was held on October 10 at the Huebner Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Schmidt delivering the funeral sermon. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran, Ladies Quartet with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery with the following serving as bearers: Arnold Gluesing; George Maack, John J. Petersen, Louis Hinrichsen, Elmer C. Petersen and Marvin Schwenn.

Paul O. Denker (1893 - ?)

Paul Otto Denker, the son of Chris Denker and his wife Frieda nee Heide, was born Aug. 16, 1893, and died in the Memorial Hospital July 20. He had been ill for several months and hospitalized locally and in the St. Joseph Hospital of Omaha.

He grew to manhood near Denison and was married to Frieda Finnern on March 2, 1919 a union to which two sons were born. They farmed in Denison and East Boyer Townships until retiring to make their home in Denison in 1952. Mr. Denker was a member of the Lutheran Church, having been baptized in infancy in the local church.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church on last Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Carl Schmidt in charge. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery. Bearers were Clarence Denker, Elmer Denker, Hugo Denker, Jr., Herman Haase Jr., Henry H. Finnern and John Graves, all nephews of the deceased. Mr. Denker was serving as an elder of the Lutheran Church at the time of his death.

Surviving are: his widow; two sons, Paul, Jr., and Irwin of Denison; four brothers; Hugo, Max, Rudolf and Walter of Denison; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Haase and Ella Denker of Denison and two granddaughters, Sandra and Cynthia Denker.

Peter H. Henricksen, 81, Denison, Iowa - Died Oct. 27, Denison hospital, two-month illness. Funeral Oct. 29, Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. C. W. Schmidt. Burial Memorial Heights Garden, Denison.

Born Jan. 16, 1888. Lifetime resident of Crawford County. Married Anna Ludemann, Feb. 27, 1919.

Survivors: Widow; four daughters, Mrs. Chris Werneberg of Charter Oak, Iowa, Mrs. Henry Reichert of Denison, Mrs. Glen Taylor of Buffalo, Mo., Mrs. Chester Groth of Ida Grove, Iowa; one son, Leo of Denison; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Phyllis (Bielow) Neighbors (1929 - 1993)

Phyllis M. Bielow Neighbors died on Wednesday, August 25, 1993 at Northwest Continuing Care Center in Arlington Hights, Ill. at the age of 64 years.

Phyllis was born on February 7, 1929 in Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Martha Bielow. Mrs. Neighbors was employed by Hoyne Savings of Chicago as a payroll manager for over 5 years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Palatine where she was involved with the church choir, the Women of Peace and the Young at Heart Group. She was also a member of Lutherans for Life.

Mrs. Neighbors was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Neighbors, and one brother Wilbert "Whip" Bielow. Her survivors include one son, Steven Neighbors of Hot Springs, S.D. and one daughter, Martha Neighbors of Palatine.

Services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 1993 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, Ill., and at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 31 at Faith Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo. Arrangements were made by Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home of Palatine, Ill.

Pierce R. Hannemann (1931 - 1972)

Funeral services for Pierce R. Hannemann were held Monday, September 25, 1972, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, with Rev. F.A. Wiese officiating. Mrs. Ray J Schmidt was the organist. The congregation sang "Rock of Ages" and the choir sang "Be Still My Soul".

Pierce Richard Hannemann, son of Richard Hannemann and his wife Mamie nee Schultz, was born February 7, 1931 at Schleswig, Iowa. He grew up in this community, attending the Schleswig School. He was baptized by Rev. E. Mueller, pastor of the Evangelical Church. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for a number of years.

At the time of his death, he was living with his mother at Schleswig. Because of illness of long standing, Pierce was unable to take part in many activities. He died last Thursday afternoon, September 21, 1972, while being taken by ambulance to Iowa City for treatment. He attained to 41 years, 7 months and 14 days.

He is survived by his mother Mamie of Schleswig and his two sisters: Quinna Erickson of Gaylord, Minnesota and Pearlie Siemer of Schleswig. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert who died in a tragic drowning in 1965 and his father Richard who died in 1967.

Pallbearers were: Ray Schmidt, Julius Miller, Raymond Miller, Allen Jorgensen, Byron Hannemann and Bruce Hannemann. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Peter W. Petersen (1882 - 1963)

Funeral services for Peter W. Petersen were held Thursday, June 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The congregation sang What A Friend We Have In Jesus. The choir sang I Am But A Stranger Here. Mrs Ray Schmidt was the organist.

Peter Wilhelm, one of eleven children, was born on November 6, 1882, in Hanover Township of Jurgen Petersen and Adaline nee Lorenzen. He was baptized by Pastor Bretcher and confirmed by Pastor Runge at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township.

He was married to Hulda Brochmann on August 18, 1902, at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor Von Del Au. This union was blessed with five children. Peter Petersen lived all of his life in this community.

His great interests were farming and cattle breeding. He also took part in community affairs, at one time being President of the Farmers Lumber, Schleswig, Director of Farmers Mutual Insurance, Schleswig, and a director of the Federal Land Bank, Denison. He held the office of elder in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, for a number of years and was a member of this congregation over 40 years. Peter had been in ill health for the past three years and died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Monday June 17th.

He is survived by his widow Hulda, 4 children; Jurgen and C. Henry of Denison, Emil of Schleswig, and Elsie, wife of Fred Carstensen of Ida Grove. Three brothers: Chris and August of Denison, Emil of Westside; two sisters, Marie, wife of John Klinker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs Mollie Knudsen of Denison and six grandchildren.

He attained to 80 years, months, and 11 days. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter Elaine, one son Bernhard, 4 brothers and one sister. Pallbearers were; Herman Wellendorf, Raymond Fredrichsen, Robert Christiansen, Lorenz Petersen, John J. Petersen, and August F. Petersen. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery.

Raymond Boettger (1919 - 1977)

Raymond Boettger, 57, of Denison, died Friday, July 22, 1977, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday, July 25, at the Huebner Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens.

Mr. Boettger was born November 13, 1919, in Paradise Township near Denison. He married Helen Klause December 6, 1942, at Ute. They farmed near Denison until 1975, when Mr. Boettger retired because of ill health and they moved into town.

Survivors include the widow; a son Henry of Denison; five daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Marlene) Struck of Schleswig Mrs. Paul (Judith) Bockelman and Mrs. Douglas (Mariann) Schnoor, both of Charter Oak, Mrs. John (Colleen) Steinkuehler of Omaha and Miss Sandra Boettger at home; ten grandchildren; his father, John of Denison; and three brothers Hugo of Dow City and Art and Lester both of Denison.

Raymond J. Bruhn (1911 - 1983)

Raymond John Bruhn was born on February 2, 1911, in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Peter and Marie Fick Bruhn. He died on Monday morning, February 7, 1983, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 72.

Ray was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. He was raised on a family farm in Soldier Township. He received his formal education at the Immanuel Lutheran School.

On August 19, 1931, Ray was united in marriage to Alice Abbe at Zion Lutheran parsonage in Denison. Together they farmed in Ida and Crawford counties for thirty-eight years. In October of 1974, they retired and moved into Schleswig. Ray was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig He was also a member of the Schleswig Community Club.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one son Delphin, one grandson Jay Michael Teut, one brother Walter and one sister Minnie.

Survivors include his wife Alice of Schleswig, one son Dennis and his wife Coleen of Schleswig, one daughter, Nancy and her husband Corvin Teut of Schleswig, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Rudolph and Irwin, both of Denison, Herbert of Wayne, Nebraska, Leo and Louis both of Mapleton, two sisters, Hilda, Mrs. Carl Brockman of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Mrs. Hattie Hingst of Benton Harbor, Michigan; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Neddermeyer of Ute, and by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Hertha Abbe of Danbury.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 16, 1983, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Paul Wiegert officiated at the services , Mrs. Leroy Hight served as organist with Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Choir singing "There is an Hour of Peaceful Rest". The congregation sang "Abide With Me " and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Serving as pallbearers were David Bruhn, Dale Bruhn, LaVern Eyer, Merlin Stockfleth, Terry Abbe and Roger Paulsen.

Raymond W. Abbe (1910 - 1985)

Raymond W. Abbe was born on May 26, 1910, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of Gustav and Emma Marth Abbe. He died at his home in Schleswig Tuesday evening, October 8, 1985, at the age of 75.

Ray spent his formative years on a family farm in Grant Township. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township.

He was united in marriage to Frances Burk on December 21, 1932, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township. Together they made their home on a farm in Grant Township for thirty-four years. Following retirement from farming in 1966, they moved to Schleswig. Ray began his career with Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in 1966. Ray and Frances celebrated fifty years of marriage in December of 1982. Frances died September 7, 1983. Ray continued to make Schleswig his home following the death of his wife.

In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include one niece Sandra, and husband Paul Burton of Danbury, Iowa, and one nephew, Orlan Abbe and wife Darlene of Schleswig. He is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. LuVerne Schneider of Battle Creek and Mrs. Hedwig Abbe of Schleswig, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 15, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The Rev. Richard Nelson and Dr. John R. Stephenson, Vicar, officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Marlene Hight served as organist for the services with Mrs. Leilani McFarland as soloist. Hymns for the services included "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Rock of Ages", and "The Lord's Prayer". Serving as pallbearers for the services were LaWayne Gronau, Ron Lahr, Terry Abbe, Ray Miller, Kelly Burton and Larry Abbe. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig.

Richard O. Hannemann (1889 - 1967)

Funeral services were held for Richard Hannemann November 2 at Sinn's funeral home (Schleswig), Rev. R.J. Ratzlaff officiated. Mrs. John Evers, organist accompanied Mrs Don Meyer and Mrs. Ernie Grell who sang "What a Friend we Have in Jesus and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Richard Otto, son of Gustav and Catherine nee Gehrt Hannemann was born on December 9, 1889 at Rolling Green, Minnesota, He was baptized on December 23 1909. He was a resident of the community (Schleswig) for 38 years, previously he lived in Oklahoma.

On July 19, 1929 he was married to Mamie Schultz at Ida Grove. He was a veteran of World War one. He was a carpenter before his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie, two daughters, Mrs. Quina Erickson of Gaylord, Minnesota, Mrs. Pearly Siemer; one daughter-in-law Mrs. Robert Hannemann (Eileen) of Carroll; 1 son, Piece, at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Tex and Ben Hannemann of Oklahoma and Emil of Schleswig; one sister, Mrs. Henry Paulsen of Mapleton; six grandchildren and four great-grand-children.

He attained the age of 77 years, 10 months and 22 days. He is preceded into death by his parents and one son Robert. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha on November 1. Honorary pallbearers were: Ray Schmidt, Vernie Schmidt, Allen Jorgensen, James Else, Howard Krohnke and Peter Pickel. Military honors were by the VF'W and American Legion. Interment was made in the Morgan Cemetery.

Robert D. Fink (1919 - 2001)

Robert Daniel Fink was born March 31, 1919 on the family fair near Deloit, Iowa, the son of Dan and Dorothy Petersen Fink. He died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at his home on the same family farm at the age of eighty-two.

Bob received his education in the Deloit Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1937 and continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. After completing his education he entered the United States Air Force and served his country in the postal department with the 8th Air Force during World War II, serving in England for thirty-four months.

In 1945, Bob returned home to farm and was united in marriage to Arlene Nicholson in July of 1945 at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa.

Bob purchased the Sears Catalog Store in Denison in 1974, running the store until retiring in 1982. Bob was a director of Kiron Mutual Insurance Company of Kiron since 1949 and served as president of the board for twenty-seven years. He was a member of the American Legion, the First United Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau, and served in all the offices. He enjoyed serving on the Denison School Board for nine years, was an active 4-H leader, and served as the Beef Superintendent at the Crawford County Fair for twenty-five years. As a lifelong resident of Crawford County, he was liked and respected by all who knew him. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ione Fink who died in an accident in 1921. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Arlene of Deloit; one son, Michael Fink of Deloit; one daughter, Valerie Millang and her husband, Gary of Colfax. Iowa; six grandchildren, two step-
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and great-grandchild, baby Marshall to be born in November; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Nancy Miles provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Eldon Hardekopf singing "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and recessional instrumental selection "Somewhere My Love". Those serving as pallbearers were: Jason Fink, Robert Fink, Daniel Enfield, Wendell Argotsinger, James Beaman and Rodger Larson. Military Honors were the American Legion Post No. 8, Denison, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the United Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Hannemann (1934 - 1965)

Funeral services for Bob Hannemann were held on Wednesday. August 4th at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts. Pastor Frederick A. Wiese of Schleswig officiated. The congregation sang, "Savior, I Follow On," and "Abide With Me." Mrs Leo Bruhn was organist.

Robert Delaine Hannemann son of Mr and Mrs Richard Hannemann, was born at Schleswig on November 16, 1934. He attended the local school. He served in the United States Army from January 1954 to December 1956. Eighteen months of his service was in Alaska. Since April 1957, he has been employed by the Godberson-Smith Construction Company of Ida Grove.

He was married to Eileen Bartels of Ricketts in St. Luke's Lutheran Church on October 20, 1957. In May 1959 after religious instruction, he was accepted as a member of the congregation.

Bob was drowned early Sunday morning. He had gone fishing on Saturday evening with Jim Witt of Battle Creek and Jim's 10 year old son Larry on the River Sioux off Highway 75. On the way home that night, they stopped at the Little Sioux River below Walter's Dam where Bob wanted to fish for half an hour. Jim and his boy went to the car to sleep. When they awoke at 7 a.m. Bob was missing. On Sunday the scuba divers from Omaha could not locate his body. On Monday as the Conservation officers were dragging the river, they found his body about 4:00 p.m., 75 feet away from where he had fallen in. Where Bob was fishing, the bank is quite steep. He was wearing a heavy lined parka and could not swim.

He is survived by his widow Eileen of Battle Creek, two children Bret age 6 and Roxanne age 5. His parents Mr and Mrs Richard Hannemann of Schleswig, one brother Pierce of Schleswig and two sisters: Pearly of Schleswig and Mrs Oliver Erickson of Gaylord, Minnesota. Military rites at the grave were given by the Battle Creek Legion Post. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery.

Robert J. Baeth (1897 - 1977)

Robert John Baeth, son of Hans D. Baeth and his wife Marie Witthahn was born on a farm south of Schleswig on January 10, 1897. He was baptized in May, 1898 by Pastor Runge and confirmed as an adult by Pastor Hoemann in 1929 in St. John's Lutheran Church at Battle Creek, Iowa. He served in the Army in World War I.

On February 23, 1921, he was united in marriage to Marie Linke by Rev. Firnhaber, To this union were born three children. After their marriage the couple farmed and came to Crawford County in 1940 when they became members of Immanuel of Schleswig. In 1957 he moved to California to be near his daughter.

He died in a Vallejo, California hospital after a short illness on January 18, 1977. He was 80 years and 8 days old at the time of his death. He held membership in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Vallejo up until his death.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lajune Kersthold of Vallejo, Joydine, wife of Lorenz Schultz of Denison; one daughter-in-law, Waverline Baeth of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren, 5 brothers, John and Charles both of Schleswig, Peter of Seattle, Washington, Louis of Moorhead, Iowa and Harvey of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 1949, his son, Robert in 1972, his parents, two sisters, three half-sisters and four half- brothers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 1977, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa, with Rev. Theodore Leming officiating. Mrs. Leroy Hight was the organist. The ladies choir sang "I'm But a Stranger Here" and the congregation sang "For Me to Live is Jesus". Military services were conducted by the American Legion and V. F. W., Schleswig, Iowa. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery.

Rodney L. North (1920 - 1999)

Rodney Lorne North was born at Vail, Iowa, March 17, 1920, the son of Rodney James and Mildred Pearl Dingman North. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism January 7, 1921 at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail. Lorne was raised on the farm receiving his education in the rural schools before being graduated from Vail High School with the Class of 1936.

On August 31, 1939, Lorne was united in marriage with Viola Osterlund at Minden, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children, Robert, Janice and Rick. They made their home on a farm near Deloit for two years before moving to their home farm in Milford Township in 1941. In conjunction with farming Lorne operated a Hog Buying Business in Vail for a time, sold feed and Harvesters. In 1960, after having received his training in Ames, Iowa, Lorne began North Auction Service which he operated for over twenty-five years.

In 1968, Lorne and Viola moved to Denison where Lorne continued his auction business and maintained his active interest in farming, especially raising Angus cattle and Arabian horses. After receiving his real estate license he was employed at McCord Real Estate until branching out on his own to establish North Real Estate which he shared with his sons Rick and Bob. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting with his many friends and neighbors, playing cards and traveling, having spent many winters in the South.

Through the years Lorne took an active roll in his community having served as a Crawford County Supervisor from 1956 until 1959 and was active on the Soil Conservation Board. He was a life time member of the Vail Presbyterian Church having served as Elder, Trustee and Treasurer; a fifty year member and past Master of Diamond Lodge # 422A. F. & A. M., Vail, Iowa; Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City; Angus Association, and was a fifty year member of Olive Branch Chapter # 205 Order of Eastern Star, Vail, Iowa.

Lorne died peacefully at his home in Denison with his loving family at his side Friday, June 18, 1999.At the time of his death he had attained the age of 79 years, 3 months and 1 day.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 60 years, Viola North of Denison, Iowa, three children, Robert North and wife, Sue of Nevada, Iowa, Janice and husband, Gene Lea of Honey Creek, Iowa and Rick North of Omaha, Nebraska, eight grandchildren, Robert North, Jr. and wife, Lori of Ankeny, Iowa, Rosalind and husband, Rob Zils of Buffalo, Minnesota, Randall North of Wichita, Kansas, Kevin Lea, Tim Lea and Kris Lea of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lyndsey North and Corey North both of Omaha, Nebraska, two step grandchildren, Heather and Malissa Freidhof of Nevada, Iowa, two great grandchildren, Morgan and Mason North of Ankeny, Iowa, two sisters, Carol Brantz of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lois Bell of Vail, Iowa, one uncle, Keith Dingman and wife, Midge of Austin, Texas, one aunt, Evelyn North of Medford, Oregon, sister-in-law, Louise Osterlund of Denison, Iowa, brother-in-law, Louis Osterlund and wife, Pat of Vail, Iowa, special friends, Sue Stone, Sharon Mason, Susan North, Sheila North and Kay North, several nieces, nephews and a number of cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P. M., Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa with the Rev. Ben Ray officiating. Music for the service included the congregation singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" with Glenn Freese serving as Song Leader and Jean Ang as organist. Honorary bearers included George Slater, Earl McCollough, Edwin Magill, Dale Crane, Andrew Blair, Rodney Bell, Joe Griffin, Gordon Young, Dwight Hamer, John Schneider and Harold Groen. Bearers were Lorne's grandchildren Robert North, Rosalind Zils, Randall North, Kevin, Tim and Kris Lea and Lyndsey and Corey North. Interment was at the Vail Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements where a Masonic Service, conducted by the Dalmond Lodge # 422 A.F.& A.M., Vail, Iowa, was held at 7:30 P.M., Monday, June 21, 1999.

Roland J. Struck (1911 - 1987)

Roland J. Struck was born on January 12, 1911, in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Edward Struck and Minnie Bendixen Struck. He died on September 23, 1987, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 76 years.

Roland graduated from the Schleswig High School with the class of 1928, and attended Sioux City Barber College. After completing the course and apprenticeship, he worked for Julius Andresen in Julius' Barber Shop in Schleswig for two years.

On December 20, 1931, Roland and Emma Braase were united in marriage in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. To this union, one son was born. After marriage they made their home on the farm where Roland was born, living there until retiring in 1974 and moving to Schleswig.

Roland was a member of the United Church of Christ of Schleswig, where he served as a council member. He also served on the Morgan Township school board and the Crawford County Beef Producers Association. He was a member of the Schleswig Community Club and took part in political affairs. He enjoyed his home and family, friends and neighbors. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. In his younger years, he played on the Schleswig softball team and assisted with Boy Scout work. He bowled with the senior league. A very special time for the family was when Roland and Emma celebrated their Golden Anniversary on December 20, 1981.

Roland was preceded in death by his mother when he was 12 years of age. He was also preceded in death by his father and step mother. Survivors include his wife, Emma of Schleswig and his son, Jerry Struck of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one grandson, J. Matthew; one granddaughter, Gretchen; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 1987, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Darrell T. Bailey officiated. Mrs. Evelyn Johnson served as organist for Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau and Janet Lafrentz, trio. Selections were "Whispering Hope" and "An Evening Prayer". Burial was in the Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig. Pallbearers were Larry Clausen, DeWayne Sonksen, Donald Koch, Louis Aldag, Michael Goodin and Allen Stoneking.

Ronald A. Neddermeyer (1944 - 1990)

Ronald A. Neddermeyer was born March 2, 1944, the son of Adolph and Gladys (Samuelson) Neddermeyer and died July 28, 1990, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, la., at the age of 46 years.

Ronald was born in Charter Oak, and grew up on the family farm. He was baptized as an infant at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, and was confirmed in 1958, also at St. John's. As a child, he began his education in a rural school near his home. He then continued his education at St. John's Lutheran School in Charter Oak and the Charter Oak High School.

After completing his education, Ronald was employed for a time as a mechanic at Paup's Garage in Denison. He then continued his working career in construction in Sioux City, and in maintenance with Iowa Beef Processors in Emporia, Kan. After returning to the Crawford County area, he returned to construction work and was employed by Walter Hass. He then was involved with the construction of MFS grain bins.

On June 4, 1971, Ronald was united in marriage to Joleen Boettger in Sioux City. They were blessed with the birth of five children. In 1976, they moved to Charter Oak, and Ronald began custom farming in 1977. In 1988, he bought his grandparents' farm near Charter Oak, where he farmed, but continued custom farming in the area.

Throughout his life, Ronald worked hard, and enjoyed building things on the farm. He built several items of farm equipment and modified others to improve their usefulness. He enjoyed his childrens' school activities and enjoyed working with them on, the farm. He served his country as a member of the Iowa National Guard, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; and one daughter, Julie, in infancy. Survivors include his wife Joleen; his children: Jason, Jenna and her fiance, Carl Nelson, Jared and Justin; his father and mother, Adolph and Gladys Neddermeyer of Charter Oak; two brothers, Allan Neddermeyer and his wife, Marjorie, and Melvin Neddermeyer and his wife, June; one sister, Eileen and her husband, Warren Hennings, all of Charter Oak; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak with Pastor L.C. Gebhardt officiating. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Charter Oak. The American Legion Homer Hall Post No. 66 of Charter Oak conducted military rites. Honorary pallbearers were Loren Kastner, Henry Klockgether, Vernon Larson, LeRoy Nemitz, Darlo Pirwitz and Delaine Vogt. Pallbearers included David Boettger, Scott Fredericks, Tim Hennings, Sean Krohnke, Cory Neddermeyer and Jamie Neddermeyer. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Services in Charter Oak.

Ronald R. Anderson (1933 - 1971)

Funeral services for Ronald R. Anderson of Omaha were held Tuesday, January 19, 1971, in the West Hills Presbyterian Church of Omaha, Nebraska. Rev. Donald Duly officiated. Mrs. Jim Thomas was the organist. Mrs. Ken Moore soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and the congregation sang "Just As I Am".

Ronald R. Anderson, son of Levi A. (deceased) and Faye Anderson of Schleswig, Iowa, was born in Sac County, Iowa, April 1, 1933. He was joined in marriage to Lois Mae Jensen on January 18, 1953 in the E. & R. Church at Schleswig, Iowa. Ronald was a charter member of his church. He served three years as a deacon and was Sunday School secretary at the time of his death.

He died Saturday evening January 16, 1971 in the Methodist Eppley Care Center in Omaha, after a lingering illness.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; five children, Dale, Rickie, Chris, Patti, and Lisa all at home; his mother, Mrs. Faye Anderson of Schleswig; brother, Duane of Story City; and a sister, Norma, Mrs. James Schwarz of Schleswig. He reached the age of 37 years, 9 months, and 15 days. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.

Rosa (Bahnsen) Peters (1887 - 1971)

Mrs. Rosa Peters died at her home 4th Avenue South in Denison March 14 at the age of 83 years, ten months. She had been in failing health many years and had been hospitalized various times.

Rosa AIvina Bahnsen was the daughter of Chris Bahnsen and his wife Ulreake nee Jensen. She was born Apr, 22, 1887 and baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church a Denison in 1942. She was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid for many years.

She married William Peters on Sept. 20, 1905. After their marriage they farmed near Charter Oak and later near Buck Grove, coming to live in Denison in 1934. Mr. Peters preceded her in death in 1958.

Services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church March 17 with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Mrs. Ernestine Schmidt served as organist and hymns were sung by Henry Henningsen. Interment was made in the Morgan Township cemetery with Edward Bohm, Elmer Hamann, Allen Miller, Hugo Freshe, Adolph Krueger and Joe Speake as pallbearers.

Survivors are her children Mrs. Arthur Kelm, Edna. Mrs. William Hoffmeier Sadie, William Jr., Lavern and Martha Peters, all of Denison and Ralph Peters of Carroll, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two sisters. Mrs. Minnie Evers of Denison and Mrs. Emma Christiansen of Bloomfield, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Adela and Mary, one grandchild, three brothers Peter, John and Chris and three sisters Julia, Anna and Amanda.

Rosa (Crane) Borgstahl (1916 - 1983)

Rosa Mae Borgstahl was born on a farm near Vail, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1916, the daughter of Franklin and Frona Crane. She was raised on the family farm and received her early education at the rural schools near her home. Rosa attended high school in Denison, where she was graduated with the class of 1933. During her high school, Rosa took two years of Normal Training that certified her to teach grade school. Following her graduation she taught in the school in East Boyer Township. Rosa was baptized in April of 1930, and on December 25, 1937, she was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

On June 4, 1937, Rosa was united in marriage with William Borgstahl at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union, two children, Ronald and Janice, were born. Following their marriage Bill and Rosa made their home on a farm west of Denison until 1948 when they moved to their present farm home north of Deloit. After her marriage, Rosa taught for a time in the rural school in Otter Creek Township. After retiring in 1982, they had continued to reside on the farm.

It was while Rosa was taking her daily walk Feb. 17, that she was stricken with a heart at tack and taken to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. After suffering another heart attack on Saturday, Rosa was taken to the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb., and it was there her death occurred Feb. 27, 1983, At the time of her death she has attained the age of 66 years, three months, and 12 days.

During her life, Rosa spent countless hours doing volunteer work for her church and civic organizations. At age 10 she joined 4-H and continued to remain active in that organization until her death. For ten years she was a leader of the Kiron 4-H Star Girls Club. She then worked in all of the 4-H organization at the county level including being a judge of records and judging achievement shows. In December of 1982, Rosa was awarded the 4-H Alumni Award. Since 1949 she was a member of the Home and Hobby Club. She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was presently serving as treasurer of Dorcas.

Rosa was an active participant in the Red Cross Bloodmobile program having recently received a nine gallon pin. For many years Rosa worked with the handicapped clinics that were conducted in Denison, and she was a member of the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Denison.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents and one sister who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband William of Deloit, one son, Ronald Borgstahl of Hampshire, Ill., one daughter, Janice (Mrs. Eldon) Geist of Lakewood, CO, six grandchildren, Leigh and Kaye Borgstahl, and Cynthia, Andrew, Susan, and Juli Geist, one brother, Kermit Crane of Dunlap. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wed., March 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Jack D. Heck officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Henry Henningsen as soloist singing "Abide With Me" and the, congregation singing "What A Friend We have in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art", with Mrs. Fred Rabe as organist. Honorary pallbearers included Ray Larson, Cyrenus Knief, George Beaman, Robert Fink, Earl Whiteing, Howard Shaw, Vernet Soenksen, Wilbur Reimers, Virgil Boeck, Ray Kluender, Vincent Keating, and Fred Holst. Pallbearers were Jim Beaman; Michael Fink, Calvin Enfield, Bernard Martin, Larry Boeck, and Merlin Whiteing. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker-Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Rosa (Wellner) Preuss (1912 - 1972)

Mrs. Rosa Preuss, daughter of Otto and Louise Subbert Wellner, was born at Charter Oak, July 3, 1912, and died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Anaheim, Calif., Tuesday, June 5, at the age of 60.

Mrs. Preuss was raised in the Charter Oak Community. She attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In 1934 she married Alfred Preuss of Ricketts. They were blessed with four children. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. , Ronald (Barbara) Bihrer of Odebolt and Mrs. Tom (Landa) Tune of Anaheim, Calif., two sons, Ray Allen and Mathew, both of San Bernadino, Calif., seven grandchildren, one brother. Louie of Charter Oak, four sisters, Mrs. Fritz (Louise) Timm of Centerville, Ohio, Mrs. Clara Miller, of Mapleton, Mrs. Harold (Augusta) Soper of Charter Oak, and Bertha Goetsch of Litterdale.

Funeral Services were held at St. Luke's Lutheran church, Ricketts Saturday, June 9, with Rev. Mark Boecker officiating. Burial was at the Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy C. J. Dethmann (1915 - 2002)

Roy C. J. Dethmann was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, December 7, 1915, the son of Herman and Lucie Petersen Dethmann. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church August 22, 1916, and confirmed in his Christian Faith there March 19, 1932. Roy was raised on the family farm and received his education in the local rural schools. Following his education he was employed by farmers in the area.

On January 25, 1941, Roy was united in marriage with Marjorie Johnston at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Carol. They made their home on a farm near Manilla.

During World War II, from January 25, 1943 until his discharge November 27, 1945, Roy served his country in the United States Army serving in battles and campaigns in northern France and central Europe. Upon his discharge he returned to his family and farmed in the Manilla and Buck Grove areas.

In 1956 Roy, Marjorie and Carol moved to Denison where they operated the Fonda Motel. In 1959 Roy began a 20 year career in the road maintenance department with the Iowa Department of Transportation from which he retired in 1979. After his retirement he was employed part time by Carlyle Memorials in Denison. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, walking and visiting with neighbors, friends and relatives. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, American Legion Post 8, Denison and the Golden K Club.

Roy entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison April 30 of this year where his death occurred Sunday afternoon, September 29, 2002. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 86 years, 9 months and 22 days. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lucie Petersen, his stepfather, August Klink and one brother, Wernes Dethmann.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of over 61 years, Marjorie Dethmann of Denison, one daughter, Carol Bilker of Denison , one brother, Leonard Klink and his wife, Emma Lee of Denison, one sister-in-law, Anna Dethmann of Denison, nieces, nephews, other relatives ad friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included Jim Ratzlof singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and the congregation singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Karen Kahl served as organist. Casket bearers included Jeff Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Justin Johnston, Jacob Johnston, Amie DeKok and Chris Klink. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Roy O. Berner (1899 - 1978)

Roy Otto Wilhelm Berner was born Aug. 6, 1899 at Rockwell City, Iowa the son of Fredrick and Matilda Oast Berner. He died Dec. 15, 1978 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. Denison, at the age of 79. Roy was raised on a farm near Rockwell City. He farmed with his family before marriage.

On Sept. 9, 1924 he was united in marriage to Rose Mesenbrink at Jackson. Minn. They made their first home on the Berner home place near Rockwell City. Later they lived near Manson before moving to Deloit in 1935 where Roy purchased a farm. In 1973 Roy moved to Denison, but continued to operate his farm near Deloit.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one son, Junior Roy Alfred, one brother and one grandson.

Survivors include, his wife Rose of Denison, three sons, Edmond of Logan. Marlyn of Fresno, Calif. and Larry of Dow City and two daughters, Eunice Rae, Mrs. Merle Stromberg of Grand Island, Nebraska and Joleen Rae Berner of Denison. Also by 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Bill of Michigan and Fred of Fort Dodge, and three sisters, Mrs Alvena Gross of Rockwell City, Mrs. Elta Zell of Fort Dodge and Aileen, Mrs. Milton Dingman, also of Fort Dodge.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck of the Zion Lutheran Church officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Richard Holihan, Oral Riley, Alven Schurke, Bob Crampton, Alvin Wiese and Milton Childress. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison.

Ruby C. (Miller) Nelson (1922 - 1993)

Ruby C. Nelson was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Schleswig, Iowa, November 30, 1922, the daughter of Robert and Hattie Mohr Miller. She was raised on the farm and received her elementary education in the Hanover Number 2 Rural School before being graduated from the Schleswig High School with the class of 1940.

During World War II, from March of 1943 until July of 1944, Ruby served her country in the United States Navy. Upon her discharge she returned to Crawford County and was employed at Cronks Cafe before purchasing and operating the Community Cafe in Denison.

On June 22, 1953, Ruby was united in marriage with Ace Nelson at Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home in Denison and Ruby continued to operate the cafe until 1956. After selling the cafe, with the exception of working part-time for Tom Rosauer in the sporting goods store, Ruby was a fulltime mom and Denison community booster and volunteer.

For many years she was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Many will remember Ruby for her over twenty years serving as scorer for the Denison Little League and high school baseball games. She was an active member of the Denison High School Booster Club attending and supporting most of their activities and sporting events. Ruby was bestowed the honor of being crowned queen of the Denison Quasquicentennial and reigned during that celebration. She was a member of the Friends of the Denison Aquatic Center where she swam five days a week, and was a member of the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa.

Many of the community were lucky to be recipients of Ruby's many culinary skills in canning and baking, which she shared abundantly. In her spare time Ruby enjoyed many activities including collecting cardinals, bird feeding and bird watching, crocheting, and watching and attending many sporting events, being especially fond of the Chicago Cubs.

Ruby suffered an apparent heart attack at her home Wednesday morning, January 13, 1993, and her death was pronounced a short time later at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 70 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ace Nelson of Denison, Iowa, three children, Betty Beam of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Annette Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa, and John Nelson and his wife Celia of Des Moines, Iowa, three grandchildren, Shad Beam of Blair, Nebraska, Amber Beam of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Adam Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa, and one brother Ray Miller of Schleswig, Iowa. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 1993, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa, with Dr. Nadim E. Saikaly officiating. Eulogist was her son John Nelson. Suzi Swarthout served as vocalist singing "Amazing Grace" with Marilyn Jepsen serving as organist. Honorary Bearers were Gerald Fineran, Kenneth T. Westrom, Robert Eisenbraun, and Richard Wulkow. Casket bearers included Gene Zenk, Duane Zenk, Rex Burk, Gregory Kehl, Steve Speak, and Dean C. Launderville. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison. Following cremation Ruby's remains will be interred in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Rudolph H. Bruhn (1895 - 1983)

Rudolph Henry Bruhn was born on September 19, 1895, in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Peter and Marie Fick Bruhn. He died on Sunday, February 13, 1983, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 87.

Rudolph spent his early years on a family farm in Soldier Township. He was baptized as an infant and later during the years of his education he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. During World War I, Rudolph served in the U.S. Army including overseas duty in France. After his release from the military, he returned to Crawford County where he began a career in farming.

On January 25, 1922, Rudolph was united in marriage to Ida Meyer at the Immanuel Lutheran parsonage. Together they made their home on a farm. After Mrs. Bruhn's death in 1947, Rudolph continued to farm until his retirement. For the past several years, Rudolph has been a resident of the Denison Care Center in Denison.

In addition to his parents and his wife Ida, Rudolph was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Walter and one sister Minnie. Survivors include, one daughter, Luella, Mrs. Fred Cozad of Martin, South Dakota, one granddaughter, Catherine, Mrs. Keith Albrecht of Plankinton, South Dakota and three great-grandchildren, Ferra, Amy and Justin. Also surviving are four brothers, Irwin of Denison, Herbert of Wayne, Nebraska, Leo and Louis of Mapleton; Iowa, and two sisters, Hilda, Mrs. Carl Brockman of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Mrs. Hattie Hingst of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, 1983 at 2:00 p .m, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The Rev. S. W. Holstein officiated at the services. Mrs. Joe Ewoldt served as organist with the congregation singing I Know That My Redeemer Lives and I'm But a Stranger Here. Full military graveside rites and pallbearers were provided by the Schleswig American Legion and V.F.W.

Russell E. Boeck (1928 - 1985)

Russell Ernest Boeck was born at Denison, Iowa, April 20, 1928, the son of Benton and Lillie Voss Boeck. He was baptized at Carroll, June 21, 1930, and, was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith and the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, December 22, 1946. Russell was raised on (the family farm near Manilla and received his formal education in the local rural schools. After his schooling he farmed with his father.

On November 20, 1949, Russell was married to Marian Pautsch at Charter Oak. They farmed south of Denison where they made their home. Since 1971, in conjunction with farming, Russell had been employed as a truck driver for the Crawford County Maintenance Department where he was currently employed.

Russell suffered a heart attack at home October 4, and was taken to the Denison Hospital. On Oct 7th, he was transferred to St Joseph hospital in Omaha, Nebr., where he suffered another attack. He returned home Wednesday, Oct. 16. Russell died early Thursday morning, Oct. 17, 1985, at his farm home of an apparent heart attack. He was 57 years, five months, and 27 days of age.

Russell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where, in earlier years he served as an usher, was on the school board, and was a member of the Voters Assembly. During his farming career he had practiced a lot of soil conservation work on his farm and was a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau.

Russell was preceded in death by his father, Benton Boeck, and his mother-in law, Elsie Pautsch. He is survived by his wife Marian Boeck of rural Denison, five children, Kevin Boeck and his wife Linda of rural Denison, Dale Boeck and his wife Phyllis of Fort Collin Colo., Jean and her husband Jerry Heiden of Geneseo, Ill., Michael Boeck and his wife LeAnn of Leesville, La . and Mark Boeck at home. nine grandchildren, his mother, Lillie Boeck of Denison, his father-in-law, Ferd Pautsch of the Denison care Center, two brothers, Virgil Boeck and his wife Violet of rural Denison and Gaylord Boeck and his wife Irene of rural Ida Grove, and one sister, Bonnie and her husband, Vicar Virgil Ewoldt of Ruskin, Nebr. Also surviving are many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of' relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 1985, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Music for the service was provided by Mr. Henry Henningsen singing "Nearer My God To Thee" and the congregation singing, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "I'm But A Stranger Here." Mrs. Fred Rabe was organist. Honorary pallbearers included Herschel Gabrielson, Richard Michaelsen, Dale Wight, Jack Neumann, Bob Brasel and Bill Gessmann. Pallbearers were Edward Beerman, Lloyd Deiber, John Jessen, James Laubscher, Joe DeConnick and Rick Ketelsen. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Selma B. (Boger) Lafrentz (1912 - 2003)

Selma Bertha Lafrentz was born August 13, 1912, the daughter of Herman and Louise Wulf Boger. She died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety.

Selma was born in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on July 19, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and later confirmed there on April 10, 1927. She received her education at the Zion Lutheran School in Denison and after completing her education, she worked at the Candy Kitchen.

On December 28, 1932, Selma was united in marriage to Harold Lafrentz at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm east of Schleswig until 1945 when they moved to the home farm. In 1969 they made their home in Schleswig. After Harold's death on September 24, 1995, Selma continue to live in Schleswig, until moving to Eventide in 1998.

Selma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was a very loving mother and grandmother who loved caring for her family, cooking and baking, and was known for her pies that could not be duplicated. Selma also enjoyed working outside and going to garage sales with her sister. She especially loved going to the Spencer Fair and bringing a sack lunch along. In her leisure time, Selma enjoyed socializing with family and friends in a game of cards.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, one son, Harold John in infancy, four half-brothers, Henry (Hank), William, Ferdinand and Carl Boger; four half-sisters, Lena Ehlers, Agusta Harder, Minnie Peters and Amanda Boger.

Survivors include two daughters, Maedelle Hennings and her husband, Valgene of Denison; Connie Teut and her special friend, Steven Schmidt of Schleswig; one son, Don Lafrentz and his wife, Joy of Kiron; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Frieda Rydstrom of Storm Lake, Iowa; a half brother, Ben Boger of Ida Grove; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me". Those serving as pallbearers were: Louise Laubscher, Kelly Hennings, Brent Lafrentz, Tim Laubscher, Chris Luft, Todd Teut and Jodi Luft. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid.

Stanley A. Baker (1891 - 1983)

Stanley August Baker was born on May 14, 1891, near Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, the son of Joseph and Miranda Baker, He died on Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 1983, at his home in Schleswig at the age of 91.

Stanley was raised in Missouri on a family farm, He received his formal education in the rural and community schools near his home, After the completion of his education he moved to Iowa seeking employment. Stanley served in the U.S. Army during World War I. After his release from the military he returned to Iowa and the Schleswig community.

In 1920, Stanley was united in marriage to Martha Stegeman in Schleswig. Together they made their home on a farm southeast of Schleswig, After his wife's death in the mid 1950's, he continued to make his home on the farm near Schleswig. On July 12, 1961, Stanley was united in marriage to Velma Petersen Jensen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home on the farm for a brief time before retiring and moving into the Schleswig community. Stanley was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

In addition to his parents and his wife Martha, Stanley was preceded in death by one daughter Shirley, seven brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife Velma of Schleswig, one son Ralph Baker of Webster City, Iowa, one daughter Dorothy, Mrs. Jacque Farnum of Tucson, Arizona, three step sons, Marvin Jensen of Delta, Utah, Vern Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska and Roger Jensen of Spokane, Washington, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Paul Baker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and one sister, Monta, Mrs, Lyle Hall of San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, 1983, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig, The Rev. Paul Wiegert officiated at the services, Mrs. Leroy Hight served as organist with Immanuel Ladies Choir singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I'm But a Stranger Here" . Full military graveside rites and pallbearers were provided by the Schleswig American Legion and V.F.W.

Steven A. Boger (1958 - 1978)

Steven Allen Boger was born on July 26, 1958 in Denison, the son of Floyd and Benita Boger. He died on July 5, 1978 near Denison, at the age of 19. Steven was raised near Charter Oak, where he attended the public schools. He graduated from the Denison High School in 1976. During high school, Steven was active in FFA. Since the completion of his education he has farmed with his grandfather.

Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Hans Boger. Survivors include, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Boger of Denison; four sisters, Debra, Mrs. Don Kline of Denison; Lynne, Sharon and Susan and four brothers, Keith, Kevin, Dennis and Michael all at home. Also by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hildebrandt of Denison and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Jensen.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 7, 1978 at 10;30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Kenneth Haydon officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Alan Kuhlmann, Valgene Kruse, Wayne Elwell, Bill Magill, John Peterson and Terry Boettger. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Teresa C. (Keating) Struck (1916 - 1985)

Teresa Clarian Struck was born on Jan. 12, 1916, in Crawford County, the daughter of Michael J. and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Keating. She died on June 30, 1985, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 69.

Teresa Clarian was born and raised on a farm in Paradise Township. She graduated from the grade school in Paradise No. 1, and received her high school education in Denison graduating with the class of 1934.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Struck of Schleswig, May 29, 1940 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with the late Msgr. Casey officiating. Together they made their home in the Schleswig area. To this union four sons were born; Ronald of Schleswig, Randall of Schleswig, Richard of Omaha, Neb., Robert of Carroll and twelve grandchildren. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, and a member of the St. Boniface Guild.

In addition to her parents, Michael J. Keating and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Keating, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Leonard and infant brother, David.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Interment was in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Charter Oak. Father Gene Walding was Celebrant, Father John Perdue was Con-Celebrant. Music for the Mass was provided by Mr. and Mrs. James Jurgens singing a duet with Mrs. Patrick Delanty as organist. A Rosary Prayer Service was held the evening before the Funeral Mass at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Struck, Jerry Struck, David Keating, Dennis Keating, Leonard Keating Jr., and Alfred Schoenfeld. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Thomas L. Powers (1898 - 1972)

Thomas L. Powers, 74, of Vail, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 23, of an apparent heart attack at his farm near Vail.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a. m. Friday, May 26, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail with the Rev. Harold Cooper officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Rosary was recited Thursday evening, May 25, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mr. Powers was born January 27, 1898, at Kenwood. He farmed near Vail most of his life and worked 30 years for Occo Feed Company at Vail.

On December 3, 1926, he married Mary Robinson at Vail. She died in June of 1970 at Vail.

Survivors include: sons, John of Irwin, George of Maryville, Missouri, Joseph of Ft. Hood, Texas; daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sally) Michelson of Lakewood, California, Mrs. Harold (Joan) Buck of Reedsport, Oregon, Mrs. Arthur (Jan) Staley of Sullivan, Indiana, Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Miller of Omaha, Mrs. Carlton (Kay) Petersen of Schleswig, Iowa, Mrs. Conrad (Rosalie) Schressler of Westside, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Ulshaser of Ida Grove, Mrs. Orville (Jane) Neppl of Omaha; 31 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Costello of Vail.
